I have to open up my SL1700 TT in the next or so to replace the rca cables and was just wondering if anyone has put some dynamat in there on the chassis or bottom of platter? Thoughts would be appreciated.

interesting question.
I haven't, but was planning to look into this as well on an SL-1510. I read elsewhere that some owners were going to far as to line the chassis with clay.I disabled signatures. -
Dynamat inside the chassis is probably ok, anything to help with vibrations.
But I would not put anything on the platter, I would think it would be too easy to upset
the balance? Just MHO, I honestly have not tried it in my TT.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Good idea I wasn't thinking. Your right I'd never get it balanced.

Some folks have even used clay to dampen plastic plinths. Some of the Lenco folks have used Dynamat under the platter. They can't do the whole underside cause of the idler drive. It has four different positions if you use all four speeds. Just a small amount will help damp ringing though.
They have also used large O rings on the outer rim of the platter and even perfectly sized serpentine belts.

Well parts are in for my external xover so it looks like the TT gets taken apart for new cables next weekend. Will try to take some picts as to where the dynamat can go and will go, will post process.Main Rig:

Table turned out very well. Didn't have to put much dynamat in as the whole bottom of the chassis of the sl1700 already has a isolator mat 1/4 thick (see photos) did do under the plenth. Sounds great with the new wire as well. The big surprise is the xover recap using nichicon caps all around. simply WOW detail and clarity in the mids and highs went up a notch or two. Can't wait for the caps to break in. And with the addition of the Adcom 555 mk2 the bottom is insane. There have been a few drum strikes that have startled me and made me jump. LOL. The control ( bass and mids and highs) have now is just outstanding.

Your project looks great. Kudos out to ya. Enjoy breaking it back in..

I will say that the chassis of the sl1700 is well deadened but the plinth vibrates when tapped very badly. The applacation of the dynamat under the plinth (see photos) eliminated this substantially (especially) under tonearm area. Don't know if it is responceable for any specific improvements as with the rewire done as well who knows? Sure can't hurt! I think it is well worth the effort to use the dynamat here as it did "deaden" the plinth quite a bit (which is not a bad thing)Main Rig:
