RIP Paul Kantner. He passed away this afternoon of multiple organ failure after having had a heart attach last week. He was 74 years old. I'll spin some early Jefferson Airplane tonight. This past month has been terrible for the rock music world: Lemmy, Bowie, Glenn Frey, and now Paul Kantner.

I fear it will only get worse as the artists we remember from our youth are all older that we are, and for the most part , we ain't a bunch of spring chickens around here

Got knocked unconscious by a Hell's Angel during their set at Altamount. I still remember the first time I heard Surrealistic Pillow at my friend's house as a kid when his older brother had it. Some pioneering stuff he did. RIP

On a tangentially-related note, we saw Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady) sometime in 2015 at the Flying Monkey in Plymouth, NH. Kaukonen looked pretty good (if avuncular), but Jack Casady was looking old and frail.

Time hasn't been kind to the Airplane's alumni -- although, last I saw, Grace was doing fine (although retired from music and concentrating on art).

Yes, I thought Jack was looking rather frail when I saw them last year as well. Heck, these guys are in their 70's and lots in mid-70's. It's weird, I saw Leo Kottke last night and he was looking a lot older, which I guess we all are. I saw him in about 1976 and I was thinking last night how its weird to see an artist who you haven't seen for 40 years. But they've been out there playing all these years for the most part, and long before usually. Jorma, didn't he start playing in the 50's? Like McCartney, Dylan, Townsend, Page, etc etc.

I was looking thru my albums last night and realized, most of these artists are dead. Sad indeed.

It's a shame that we are losing so many of these artists.

However, the fact that we and younger generations are/have attended/attending their concerts or still buying their albums is a testament to their talent that is spanning generations!

Kudos to them and may they RIP, their music lives on.
