The question is do I spend an additional $80+ on inductors and better 9.0u caps. I feel like maybe holding back and going with something superior to the originals, but perhaps not top shelf is more rational.
You will always wonder, what if... It will haunt your sleep, distract you at work, and make you boring to talk to. Your girlfriend will move out. If you have a dog, it will escape.

The main issue is where you plan to put it. The crossover is going to take up substantial real estate in such a small enclosure

I am assuming you mean the inductor. The caps will fit, but I have no idea how big the air core inductor will be. I know it will be larger, but how much?

:p that might be true for something like the R200's. But these are older, very good for their day and price. At some point I have to reel in my enthusiasm and direct it and the funds to other projects.

But I do get what you're saying.....

It's been awhile since I've really listened to these. They really do sound excellent as is. Originally a $319/pr of speakers.

Yeah, I bought mine for a desktop system in my office based on your recommendation in a thread I posted years ago. They do not disappoint. Still have them. Not currently in use, but they're not going anywhere. They're like a sleeper gem.

Inductor will be about 4 times the size of stock or larger
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I also had a pair of RT35i, thinking bigger would be even better. They were no slouches, but they were a bit more heavy handed in lower vocals and mid bass. The RT25i's seemed more "pure" (balanced) all through the wonderful mid/upper midrange where vocals and certain instruments soar.

Bass is ok and really good for a speaker this size. I'm really glad I pulled these out first. The vocals and acoustic instruments are so pure and open.

Listening to some remastered Jewel right now.

In your vast experience in cross over upgrades what possible negative effects could changing the inductor in the woofer circuit? I am afraid of upsetting the balance these speakers have. They are so good out of the box and I fear I'll upset that balance if I go too far with replacing every part?

In my very limited experience, caps make small but significant changes w/o upsetting things too much. Never really experimented with swapping inductors.

    Thanks

Replacing an iron core inductor in series to the midrange will net tremendous gains in clarity detailing

    Just make sure things match

Iron core inductors are like a hundred feet of dental floss wire

Dayton makes a 14 AWG 0.70mH air core which has a DCR of 0.21u the original iron core has a DCR of 0.20u. I assume this will work well spec-wise, but may not be easy to integrate into the cross over...lol
