It might be new AVR time

So my Marantz is giving up the ghost, I think, so I'm starting to shop around. I think it's the HDMI board and that's gonna cost a lot and I can't justify spending more. Unless it's like a hundred bucks to fix. What kills me is that it sounds so good.

These are a few I'm looking at. I'd appreciate any input. My only real requirement is preouts.

    What Marantz did you have?

For Yamaha, look for an Aventage, RX-A series.

I would avoid the RX-V Yamaha AVRs. For an extra $50 over what appears to be your $500 cap this would be worlds better.

SR5008 is in his sig... :)

Sorry I have all the signatures hidden to save screen real-estate lol....

Thats a nice AVR. If nothing else maybe keep it for a 2 channel or Zone 2 setup. I agree the HDMI board being replaced would likely not be worth it, but if thats all thats out, I'd try to use it elsewhere since its got optical and coaxial inputs, pre-outs, 7.1 inputs, etc.

If you've got an Oppo with a HDMI in and 7.1 out you could just use it like that for now, and then if needed for say a cable box, go HDMI into the TV and then optical out of it into the Marantz....

Just put that in my wish list. Thanks for the suggestion. Suits my needs very well and I've heard nothing but good things about its sound.

I don't want another Marantz. This is the second time its been in the shop. Problem is the hdmi board for it isn't even available anymore.

So I'm looking to sell the Marantz. Someone could make use of it by bypassing hdmi. Will prob put it in the FS section later.

I just upgraded to an rx-a1010. Love it! Sounds really good (even without external amplification), love the yamaha DSPs, and its built like a tank. Mine was shipped in the original box with NO padding, and it survived completely unscathed. Plus I love that you can turn in on with your phone or tablet and control all the functions with the very nice app.

I hear what you're sayin' Nightfall, I still have my old RX-V 663 AVR that's been quite faithful to me, never a single problem. Have thought about eventually replacing it when it dies with a pre/pro unit. Mikey had a sweet little Marantz pre/pro he linked to the other day, but those Yamaha adventage AVR's are sweet too.

So I have a line on an Emotiva Fusion 8100 on the cheap and I'm gonna take a look at it. I've read good things about it. Any opinions on that AVR?

I've read that somewhere. I'm just digging into it and so far it sounds amazing. So good that I may consider selling off the ole XPA-3 and Mapletree tube pre.

let me know if you do sell off the XPA-3.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

I plan to compare the receiver's on-board amplification to the XPA-3 this weekend. If I don't hear a noticeable difference I'll let you know.
