Sorry Tour, but Daddy was playing...

    Okay, first impressions:

PQ - Really good. I heard that the picture on this model was grainy as compared to the Samsung, but I can't tell. Sharpness and clarity rivals any plasma that I've seen. Color saturation is not quite as intense, but the compromise in cost is well worth it IMHO.

Features - Hands down the best in the offered genre. Comes with a HD tuner built in which not only decodes OTA broadcasts but will do unscrambled cable channels as well. This unit is packed with features and neat options.

You can read the manual for for it here

Value - I think it is a good deal. I got it at BB for $3653. The actual price was $ 3703, but I got $50 off from a misquote on the service plan (yes, I got it too for $249.99) This was less than the comparable Samsung, but has more integrated features.

Sound - To be honest, I haven't even tried to listen to the set yet. I don't want to have any preconceived notions, But I don't think it will sound as good as my Polks/Sunfire set up.;)

I am enjoying it, but I still have some exploring to do. I think some calibration is in order, any direction?

    Tour,

I had to drive 60 miles to preview the set, I had to order it. If you want to get a good look on, call and see if one is on display. Just don't be too critical...

    Amulford,

Congrats on your purchase! Go to avsforum.com or hometheaterspot.com and those guys will help you tweak it. Also, last time I checked the BB extended warranty doesn't cover bulb replacement on the DLP's, which is the most common problem. So you might want to 'return' the warranty and just stick that $250 in you savings account, IMO.

yea return the warranty, the only real reason for it is to cover the bulb, and BB's dosn't.

Also, that is a really good price, what part of the country.

One last thing, I've spent lots of time looking at the samsung and the rca next to each other, and myself and most people think the RCA is one of the worst looking TVs we've ever seen, mostly due to the poor quality of the components and the lack of a decent deinterlacer. Even the rep from TI said that they are thinking of telling Thompson (RCA) to get their act together before they stop licensing the chips to them.

Just a little opinion from experience.

I've been flamed here several times for just contemplating purchases or comparing certian things.

By Anthony? Hopefully not by me anyway (that would be embarassing)...

Experience, knowledge and opinions are what this place is about. Yours are no less valid. The issue is timing...

PLease take this in the good spirit it was intended...

    I only have one left...;)

But in all seriousness, I looked at the samsung and the RCA. The difference was negligible, especially when the other factors were considered (such as price, features etc.)

It all comes down to preferences. I prefer to get the most out of my dollar.

Maybe the diisplay model you saw didn't have a very good source.

I watched Monsters, Inc. last night with the kids. I could see the individual hairs from Sully's coat waving around.

    :D

Edit: I got it at a BB in Delaware.

I set up the demo model myself, and have viewed it on display at several locations. In each case the image is horribly grainy and noisy.

I am starting to think that there is something wrong with the batch we got, Sound & Vision did a review and they loved it. There has to be something wrong.
