WTB: Surround Sound Processor

Looking for a high quality surround sound processor that does at least 5.1, has multichannel inputs, and outputs. HDMI, room correction is not a must but good SQ for 2ch and HT is! Something along the lines of a NAD M15 would be nice :).

Take a look at the Outlaw Audio M975. No room correction but the set up here was painless uaing a tape measure and SPL meter. $499.00 B Stock ( mine was perfect). The 2 channel does not match the Adcom GFP-750 but sounds quite nice.

Pre/Pro so outboard amplification would be required.

This unit actually looks like it provides a lot of bells and whistles for not a huge amount of coin compared to the higher end pre/pros. Anybody with one of these can chime in on just how well they perform? Good luck on the search aboroth00.

I have one and it is really nice. I didn't buy a refurb though, I got ripped off for a new one. This one will stay in my house for a long time. it sounds killer in 2 channel direct pure, I've owned quite a few receivers as pre amps, this thing stomps them all in music playback. And it happens to be really good at movies too! The added bells and whistles are nice. Very user friendly as well.

I own this processor and actually purchased from Accessories4less. While on vacation last year, I visited their office as was impressed with the owner and staff there. Huge warehouse of stereo equipment. I was drooling. Back to this Marantz processor. It replaced a top-line Pioneer Elite AVR with MCACC for speaker calibration. The Marantz is a couple of notches higher in sound, whether in two or multi-channel. The Audyssey calibration system is more refined than the MCACC calibration system in the Pioneer. You can fine tune the sound for movies and music separately and it even can listen, calibrate and control two subs at once which my Pioneer couldn't do. I would agree, you would be hard pressed to find a better SSP, especially at the current price. I have listened to two-channel preamps in the $2000-$3000 range and would compare this SSP in the same range of quality sound. Hope this information helps you.

Thanks for all the suggestion guys. I've been moving a lot of gear in and out recently so it's been a major pain in the butt moving the heavy equipment around. I'm still missing terminal blocks to hook up all my speakers!

I've been eyeing the Outlaw 975 and some of the Marantz pre/pros. I have an Oppo 105 and an amp already so I just need a processor. After learning the 105 clips the sub output on movies, I am not at all entertaining using it as the processor. My major concern with the 975 is possibly HDMI handshaking issues and for both the Marantz and outlaw how well it'd do 2ch.

  • I have an OPPO BDP-103, Dish Network receiver, and 51" Samsung plasma. No HDMI handshake issues of any kind with the Outlaw unit. Outlaw does have a 30 return policy if you do not like the M-975 you can send it back no questions asked.

I did find I prefer the 2 channel from the OPPO done via the analog out so have the OPPO connected to the Outlaw with both HDMI and standard RCA interconnects. I also have a Sony ES 2000 SACD player connected via toslink with no connection issues.
