Hollywood heavyweights Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are set to bring the sci-fi classic War of the Worlds to the big screen, it emerged today.
Mission Impossible star Cruise is expected to be the leading man in the movie, based on the classic HG Wells novel about an alien invasion of earth.
The novel shot to infamy in 1938 when it was performed on the radio in America and the nation was driven into a panic, believing it was true.
Work could begin on the movie late next year, according to Hollywood trade magazine, Variety.
David Koepp, who worked on Jurassic Park and Spider-Man, will re-write the script.
