MC-754 but 1 will do. My shirt is shining on chrome & Very slight pit'n on chrome but what ive read up thats normal & maybe i can get something that will clean it up better. Sounds very nice on my test speakers listening to Ben Tankard MMMercy. Something to play around with on cold days. I dont have a preamp for it. Im running direct from cd player to amp to speakers. Using line out. Sounds very good. Cant wait to try it on better speakers. Kinda wondering if it would sound good on B&W cdn1se's.

That's a fine looking piece of vintage Mac gear you have there. I like the industrial look of the mc250-2100 series. From what I understand the 754 doesn't have autoformers?

Thats what i read. I normally dont mess with McIntosh because its way out of my pockets reach. Wow vocals sound really good on it. I need to hook up some decent speakers to it

Man that's purty - I have always been a McIntosh fanboy. Never heard one (except in store) but I was born in Binghamton - and it's legend around there. Homer, I know.

    Congrats! Beautiful stuff there.

    Nice.

People can trash gear all they want, but I'm a firm believer of; get your ears on it and let yourself be the judge, jury and executioner...

Glad you picked it up and gave it a shot!

Looks nice, Randy. Tell us what you think! I've never been a Mc man, certainly not their solid state stuff, too bright, too harsh, too...

The tube gear I have little experience with, but I hear that's where it's at!

Let's see what do I have in my "closets": SDA 2Bs, Monitor 10As, EPI 120Cs, Onkyo P304, Kenwood KA 7300, HH Scott S-11s...and who knows what else!

They do go into the rotation, then the wife asks are those "new"? And I can say, NO, I've had those for "years"! And that's the Truth. lol

Nice looking piece. Mc402 owner here. I had a 2105 for a while but the 402 is in a completely different league vs the 2105 but the 2105 held its own against quite a bit.

Be careful with that new Mac amp of yours as this is how things get started. 1 year ago all I had in my possession was one little old Mcintosh amp; an mc2500. 1 year later I'm up to 2 mc2500's and about 10 other various ss Mac pieces. It's a double edged sword here........ Mac and Polk not only sound wonderful together they're great to look at as well.

Thanks guys. Got it set up in spare room. Using a cd direct line outi had. Sony CDP c85es w/wood sides. No receiver. No preamp. No money :( the B&W's sound very good on the Mc. Using bare clean speaker wire till i can find better on a budget later on. Listened to Nora Jones & Eagles :) last night. Hope to get more down time soon. 6paskthd62t9.jpeg

That's a really nice amp. I would like to get some vintage Mc gear for my second system.

I was never much of a McIntosh fan until recently. Always was impressed but seemed to decide on other brands. Mostly due to cost. Then this past year I decided to replace my amps. Settled on a pair of MC601's. Really made a serious improvement in my system. Glad I made the decision to part with the cash.

Not only do they sound fantastic but they look awesome also.

You paid $25 for a Mac amp!!! Damn now that's a score as you can't even buy an emblem for that. Looking good where you have it placed to.

Im thinking of putting a Dared preamp on it down the road & roll some dif tubes & see if it will add some goodness to it.... The cdp output started acting up-right channel in/out. Had this issue when i bought it & i had a spare c85es all beat to shat that works well. Played around with settings & walla-not bad at all. Very nice on vocals & musical instrument. It is a temporary set up. It will be in rack & speakers on spiked stands.

Thanks for the offer. Its in use right now. Wouldnt mind another one to Mono the B&W's. But it by itself seems to be plenty of power

Tube preamp and SS amp is where it's at for harder to drive speakers.

P.S. Those Monoprice velcro ties are really ruining the look of all that nice gear. :p

That's a great score on the Mac Randy. I've always been a big fan of Mac gear, well, most of it. They're built like tanks and just about always sound really good. They may not do certain things as well as other pieces, but, as a whole you can't go wrong with a Mac purchase, IMO. Resale is tremendous on a lot of their stuff as well.

You can also find Magic with a good SS pre and tube amps.

Congrats Boston on a great rig for an amazing price.

Thanks guys. Its a nice sounding unit for it size. It does well & i feel when i open the speakers up on stands with proper placement that will help.. Also i noticed at low/no volume there is a slight hum. I turn off the pre & it goes away. I dont recall OR didnt listen for it at low/no volume before adding preamp when i was using cd player w-volume control as a pre. But then again i cant remember. Is there a way to adjust the amp bias ?
