just picked up a pair of mint LS70,s are there any variations of this model and how do they rate in general. First impression superb

Welcome to the LS club and Club Polk! I own everything except the 70's (see sig). Nice speakers. What finish did you get? Here's a pdf of the manual for more info.

Have a pair of LS-70 in rosewood vinyl finish. Certainly am no speaker expert. I am looking for someone (preferably in my area of Virginia Beach, VA) that I can take them to in order to look them over to determine if any components need replacing, etc. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

IIRC the rosewood is wood veneer, not vinyl. If anything the crossovers could use an update. How do they sound? If good, rock on dude...
