Last week it was fairly warm here in Chicago, good time to go out and scrape some of that ice off the driveway. As I'm clearing the ice, I glance over at my Honda and notice the license plate sticker reads 4-15.

So I stop for a minute, that's like 9 months ago, wtf ? I know I bought the darn thing, I never forget....never have either. Go in and tell the wife...."Damn shifty neighbors kids probably stole it" she says. I have to agree....but what to do.

So I march on over to the Currency exchange where I've been buying my stickers for 12 years running. "Somebody stole my sticker, what can I do ? "....I ask. She looks it up....has no record of me buying a sticker. WTF....you mean I never bought it back in April ? I can't imagine driving around for 9 months and not getting pulled over, especially since I go to city hall, where the police station is, on a regular basis. Wish I had that luck when I was a kid.

Yeah so....I forgot. Cost me 130 bucks for a sticker that's only good for 3 more months. Heck at this rate, a few more years and I'll forget wearing underwear....outside. lol

For the City of Chicago, that actually sounds pretty cheap.....for 12 months that is. Ours down here in BFA (The A stands for Atlanta area) run about that for a newer vehicle....

Yeah, I did that a few years ago. We moved and the renewal letter didn't get to me. Drove around for about 6 mos. till my daughter pointed it out. Getting old s*cks.

That is cheap. Car taxes are high here. Must be an old Honda or a two wheel one. Be thankful you caught it.

Tony, not to jack your thread, but I got one for you.
Few years back, I started getting these all these fines from the Illinois Tollway for non payment of the toll. I disputed this as I know we have never been on that road.
They even sent photos of a car with what appeared to be my Indiana plate going through the toll without paying somehow.
My wife’s car is a white Impala and the car going thru the pass lane was a red Cadillac. It did have an Indiana plate on it but the guy who was doing this put a piece of matching blue tape on the last digit of the plate.
When I talked to the people from Illinois about this, it did not matter that the registration for the plate did show it was for an Impala, I was still responsible for all the fines this dude was racking up because of the license plate number was registered to my wife’s car. Like I said earlier, some goofy lady even sent some photos of the car doing it and clearly says Cadillac on the trunk.
I sent numerous letters to the office of the inspector general and finally decided to also send an email that stated all that was wrong and that I was going to make a youtube video and let the general public make the decision on who was wrong. Within 15 minutes, I get a phone call from a big wig at the Illinois state police saying, we’ll take care of it, which they did.
I saved all the documents during this time and just added up all the fines.
Some guy from Gary Indiana in a red cadillac racked up $893.00 in fines in 2011 doing this.

LOL....good ol' state of Illinois, they don't care they just want the money. To renew you sticker costs about 100-120 bucks in the collar counties. Chicago itself is expensive especially if you transfer title or come in from out of state. 500 bucks under certain circumstances. That's highway straight up robbery in my book. That's Illinois though, you pay to play.

Illinois stopped sending renewal notices a few months back too. Now we have to remember when to renew our plates on our own.

Pay to play, I'll say.
On the back of these notices I'm reading, it gives a break down of the violations and say, I quote: Unpaid Toll 80 cents. Fine $20.00. Total $20.80.
This one page alone has 35 of those violations listed.
Too rich for my blood...

Well, to be fair....we have to remember to do a lot of things on our own. I don't need a babysitter....not yet anyway. When I do, I'll just pick one out of the Victoria secret catalog and tell my caregiver " I want that".

I don't mind getting older, takes all the accountability out of my actions. I can now bump into strange womans b o o bs and not get slapped. They even smile now, go figure.

Got my renewal notice this week. Didn't check but I think it's $75 here in Wisconsin.
