I now have only the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab ‎– MFSL 1-045 - from their "Original Master Recording" series in the 80's. It's excellent and half-speed mastered from the original tapes. I gave my original copy away (on A&M as I recall from late 70's), there was no comparison.

Technology has improved vastly, so maybe a later reissue could best the MFSL version? But, it would have to be damn good to achieve that.

One of my all-time favorite albums. I have a very early CD release which is done quite well---no squashed dynamics at all.

I remember wanting to get this one back then, seems like it was one of the earliest albums put out on MFSL. Always read about that album being recorded quite cleanly.

but "Crime of the Century" new Vinyl is excellent

Voltz, you are correct, Crime Of The Century was the Supertramp MFSL album I was thinking of as being an early release of their catalog.

Another Supertramp LP I really grew to like was "Even in the quietest Moment" but never found a good vinyl version of it yet. But it can be overly bright and a little fatiguing on some systems cause of the higher pitch singing from both singers...

... and a superb one, too.
I picked up a copy somewhere along the line, but it is all beat up, unfortunately.

I've got a very clean copy of the MFSL vinyl Crime of the Century. It is outstanding, I frequently use it as a demo disc for people who question just how good vinyl sounds.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
