SDA 1C half of tweeters upgraded

Hey everybody, Ron here. Long time lurker, first poster. Howdy!
I wanted to post my findings after many unsuccessful searches. I have a pair of SDA 1c that I got about a year ago. I love these speakers, 'cept for that high end edge that is worse on some albums than others. I couldn't find anyone that had only replaced the top tweeters. So, since they handle the majority of the range that the top SL 2000's handle, thought I would try it. Success! What a huge diff., I will b getting a second and third pair. Gotta finish these, and I have a pair of 2b in the spare room.
The tweeter upgrade to RDO-194-1 is deff worth it! Smoothed out that upper edge, like having new SDA's. I will be doing the cap upgrades as well, in time. That's why I picked up the 2b's, backups during upgrades! (found them for 100.00, couldn't pass up) Just wanted to let others know that replacing just the top tweeters does make a huge diff. Polk Audio was awesome, called on Monday, new tweets here Thursday! Back to L.A. Woman, yes! Ron

The upgraded 194 tweets are well worth the dough. I replaced all mine in the 1c's after reading a zillion raves & wow much easier on the ears than the 2000's. Enjoy LA Woman & those tweets Ron

Make sure you replace the lower ones as well and when you call Polk Audio let them know you're a member of the forum to get a discount. -
P.S. I also replaced the tweeters in my SDA-1C's as well as my Monitor 5jr's.BIG difference and glad I did it.
Then came the SDA-SRS 3.1TL's. RD-0198's went in them. -
Yes, I had read them also. I wanted to make sure it was the tweets that had that edge, not the caps. I want to pull these out and do the full mods, but they sound so freekin good I can't pull them out! I gotta have my music! I have a set 2b's as backups, but the 1c's are big step up to me, sound amazing. Rumours cranking now, my neighbors hate me, Ha!

I must say, I had my doubts about the 194's sounding so much better. NO MORE! what a a great step up these have made, Rumours just sounds amazing! So glad I tried the upgrade, and just changing the top tweets made a HUGE diff. Thanx for the welcomes people. Ron

What REALLY surprised me was the huge change that I got when I changed out the SL-2000's in my monitor 5 JR's that I use for surrounds. This strange midrange coloration that I attributed to being so high up on the wall and reflecting sound off of the ceiling completely disappeared with the new RD-0194 tweeters!!

I just did the tweets a couple hours ago, and the sound is soooo much better! It's like I got a new major component that totally transformed my system! For a C-note! Woohoo, not so sure I need to replace the lower tweets, soundin really goooood now. So glad I listened to you all, I b a happy camper.

Oh I will, work has slowed down due to weather. I'm going to rebuild these a step at a time. If the tweets are a taste of what is possible with these, I will do the full monty. I can't believe nobody makes these anymore, they are the funnest speaks to listen to. In the words of Fleetwood Mac, "I'm never goin back again"

What does the TL mod do to them? I can't imagine them getting any better than they are now. If they keep climbing in sonic eargasm, I will have to change my boxers every few minutes! I have been through a lot of speakers, and these things are like an "E" ticket ride at Disneyland, loads of fun.
I put the 2b's in for a week or two, they seemed to have more bass. But the midrange on the 1c's, sucked me back in. Of course the 2b's still have SL 2000's in them, I'll have to try 194's in them. Still can't believe nobody makes these anymore, when friends hear them they are blown away. -
The TL mod for the 2B's allows you to use the RD0198-1 tweeter.
