going from 2 channel to 5 channel
Hello, I currently own a pair of SDA 2B speakers and I am looking at adding to my system and going 5-channel for movie watching. My speakers are from the late 1980's and I'm not sure how well I can match them with a new center channel speaker and a pair of rear speakers. Would I be better off with a new pair of front L/R speakers that are part of a matching set of 5, or do you think I can build a good sounding 5-channel system around my existing older SDAs?
Thank you,
Greg
Thank you,
Greg

Center options - CS400, CS400i, CS1000P, or Monitor 4, 4.5, 5JR, 5, 7 etc on its side.
Rear options - Any vintage Polks you want to use, really.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I should mention also that because of the room arrangement, floor or pedestal speakers for the rear aren't an option. I'll need some wall mount or in-ceiling speakers for the rear.

The CS-400/400i for the center channel definitely.Look in the for sale section here.
I am using monitor 5jr's for my surround channels. They were about the same vintage and used the same drivers as my SDA-1C's.I've since upgraded to the SDA-SRS3.1TL's,but they STILL work just fine for the surrounds.Especially with the RD-0194 tweeters. I used some alligator hoooks on the back and have them mounted on some anchor bolts.

How are you powering your SDA's? If you do not already have something capable of handling the HT decoding/downmixing it might be a good idea to start there. A good pre/pro runing 2.0 or 3.0 with the SDA's should sound pretty nice. I use a CS400i with my monitor 7's 3.1 and am happy with the result.

Currently the SDAs are powered by an NAD 7400 receiver (bought it when I bought the SDAs). My current plan is to purchase an AVR for processing/routing and powering a center channel and rears, and still use the 7400 as an amp to power the SDAs.
