Considering a complete change...

Hey Folks, I haven't done much posting in this area in quite a while. I'm looking at my entire system and thinking of completely changing it. I'm running a great deal of hi powered gear right now, but I'm leaning in the direction of sound bar and sub and letting the rest of my gear go.

I welcome any and all input. I realize that I'm not going to be able to get the same punch but I'm running quite a bit of big watt amps and think I'd be better off with a single (perhaps keeping the Rotel RB-1090) as well as the AV receiver and using the front polks for listening to music. The gist is that I just don't listen to music in there as I'm a drummer and am usually doing music in my studio, or sitting in front of the pc with my Polk Cambridge speaker...

Considering letting go of the Earthquake Cinenova Grande-5, the SVS PB12-Plus/2, the LSi 9's,FX's, & C as well. I'm thinking I can pick up a surround sound bar and a sub that goes with it (guess if I can use the SVS PB12-Plus/2 that would be great, darn thing is enormous.

    Hey Geoff :)

Good to hear from you again. just seems wild to go from the 9's or 15's to a sound bar. Can't give any real advise but thought I'd say HEy! or don't do it :)

I hear ya! I'm torn about it, I'm seldom getting anything to watch that really utilizes the FX's though...

Me too in Fact I sold my FXiA4's to a friend along with my A7's and the matching center...

for now I'm using some 703's and for surrounds some PSB bookies I have for a occasional movie... but like the better sounding rear PSB for music Concerts and 5.1 SACD's thru the bluray player compared to the FXiA4's

Hey, G-2! You "married"? If so STOP listening to your wife and man up! Soundbar, tsk, tsk! You have nice system and GREAT sub there, what are you thinking!

But the natching center for whatever Polk's your going to keep, unless you already have it, keep the SVS, and the ACR. You have a 3.1, done. No need to drop down to a sound bar.

I don't know, I disagree. Putting the money towards equipment to make your own music is completely sane, IMO.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm now thinking of letting go of the LSI 15's (fronts), moving the LSI 9's to the front, and putting the FX's in the rear. This will allow me to get rid of one amp (Rotel RB-1090).

No question that it's night and day without/with the high powered gear running. It's also worth noting that my studio has so much sound reinforcement gear that I almost never listen to music on the HT...

    Thoughts...

If you don't need the $$ from the gear you're considering letting go, what about a killer 2 channel system in your studio?
You mention sound reinforcement gear, and that may be sufficient, but I was listening through studio gear for some time and it just didn't quite do it for me. So I dusted off some old Monitor 7's and picked up a Yamaha integrated amp, and much prefer the set up vs. my studio monitors / sub for listening purposes. I still need the studio stuff for recording / mixing though.
All that said, my guess is that your gear sales should generate enough cash to pick up a Tama Bell Brass snare or other 'bucket list' drum gear.

Thinking of going to a larger screen in the HT. Though I've got my feelers out for a nice brass snare. Currently playing a Noble&Cooley Steam Bent Maple, it's been my main for as long as I can remember, though I've owned quite a few different snares.

I'm thinking that if I put the LSi 9s up front, then I can easily replace them with Polk 7s or 10's for audio in that area and they'll work just fine for HT as well. I love those 7s and 10s. When I was a young kid we'll call it 40 years ago, my dad had a pair of Polk 7a's that were just amazing.

Interestingly enough, after streaming video and using the Screen's sound, we switched the amplified gear back on and the Mrs. spoke clearly regarding her thoughts that the Screen sound was not going to work.

My wife often watches through the screen as she can never figure out the remote on for the HT receiver. I literally will NOT watch TV without the full HT setup on.

GREAT snare BTW. I have a Premier Signia and a Black Magic I rotate through. I keep looking at Craigslist for a nice classic Black Beauty but have yet to find one.

I'm the same way, I won't watch it without the full set up.

Had a set of Premier Signia's and they were without a doubt one of the finest kits I've ever owned. They were right up there with my Sonor Prolites I just got rid of. Have had a BB and sure wish I'd have kept it but I miss my Jarrah Block Brady the most. Loved that drum...

Well, I'm simply floored. I had the LSi15's up front and because of the shape of my room and the amount of cr*p in the room I was never really able to get the 15's dialed in. They really need quite a bit of room. So after making the change and having things in place for about a week, WOW. The LSi9's are simply amazing, much cleaner in the low end than I could ever get the 15's to be. I have the 9's on 36" stands. They sound spectacular as do the FX's I have in the rear now.

The sound far exceeds anything I could ever wrangle out of the 15s; due to placement limitations.

The lsi 15 need a lot of room! Best I had them sounding was 3 feet from side walls, and a minimum of 2 feet to the rear wall. The lsi9 is the only speaker I didn't own in the lsi lineup. I might have to pick up a pair to try.

I didn't have the room. The LSi9's sound amazing. It's got me curious about the VR3 upgrade available. I find the 9's to have the punch (I like), as well as a very clean low end. I grew up listening to Polk7's just for reference.

I did the fortress crossover mod on my lsi 15, and the difference was well worth it, it was like I bought new speakers. I did the diy kit on my 15's and center. I highly recommend his kit.

Dang, I was getting that impression. Now I'm going to have to seiously look at this. I could do this on the 9's and the center. Don't know about the FX's in the back...
