Self failure of due diligence

I joined this place back in 2012 when I was basically gifted a set of SDA SRS. I was instantly hooked on Polk and as most of you know from about all of my posts, I was/am probably the least educated on audio.

Through the years, I’ve picked up various items and more Polk speakers from different members here.

Today, I decided to do some detailed analysis and cleaning of different items and upon further inspection, I discovered the set of RT11’s I bought from a member here actually have mis-matched tweeters and the rubber surround on one of the mid drivers has been torn.

Be it known, I FULLY accept my “lack” of experience along with the “buyer beware” in knowing what to look for when purchasing used items.

So what’s my point in posting this? Folks just beware, do as much due diligence as you can before buying something. I failed by assuming I was being told the truth.

FYI, Rick, Moose and the guy who I bought that SDA cable from, those items were actually what you stated they were and all have worked perfectly.

I will NOT call this person out in anyway shape or form, I will say again PLEASE folks, be careful and I truly HOPE no one makes the same mistake I did.

David

Well that sucks. Now that I think about it.....most of my gear was bought from folks on this forum, all with excellent results.

If the seller was aware of the issues and passed them on to you in a condition that was falsified, then kindly give the person a chance to make it right with the Tweeters and mid driver, if he refuses to accept those terms I would let his forum name be known on here as a gesture to let other potential buyers aware that this is a member not worth wasting ones time with.

Don't let it get ugly or nothing drop the name 1 time and then keep the rest via PM. To bad it happened to you, I have been fortunate with buying from the regulars here and I have had a lot of transactions that were painless and it's sad that out of all the good people here one has to be a s..t head. I wish you luck

Polk still sells the midrange driver and I'm sure you can cough up a SL2000 off someone who just did the RDO upgrade.

I would suggest finding some passives for those speakers though as those are the only thing they DONT have anymore for those speakers

PS he isn't referring to me but I'm fairly sure I know who it was and I also won't call them out here.

I can sympathize, had something similar happen with Monitor 5As years ago. But to be honest, I doubt the original seller knew the mids in each driver were mismatched. It even took me a little while to hone in on it. But I finally pulled them and took a look; sure enough they were of different impedances and runs. Which certainly reinforces the idea that your EARS are very important-and not everyone hears as well as everyone else, or even the same thing! I then hit up, Keith, Geppy, for a replacement since he's always got extras lying around. And no, I did NOT buy the 5As from Keith, he was the guy who saved me from this discovery.

No, I did not contact this person. It has been some time since I used these speakers and until today, did I really take a detailed look at them.

Did not mean to insinuate any thing other than my hope for the folks here to not do as I did. Certainly don't want to make a negative label for myself other than the one guy who still has much to learn about audio.

It wasn't you Dan, all is good..

The beauty of the Flea Market is buying from trusted sources. What happened to you was plain wrong, and hopefully doesn't become a norm because people don't want to be confrontational. Do the right thing, or stay out of the FM.

Great dude for sure and an asset to the forum. We should have a special badge for folks like him.

btw....you don't have to name names, but you know who sold you those speaks and if they weren't represented as such you need to contact them and let us know how it turns out. We are pretty stringent about keeping the FM's integrity intact.
