Showing them off in a custom Toyota FJ40, the baddest 4x4 ever built. I should have never sold mine.

ICON makes some seriously cool modern/retro vehicles. Love to have an old FJ with a 4BT in it. Maybe when I win the lottery.Wristwatch--->Crisco

That's a very nice restore, but the issue with those V8's is a lack of really low end grunt compared to the original straight six with the coffee can pistons. I used to run with a bunch of 4x4 guys, all kinds of different trucks. Anyway, there was this one hill, a really steep hill that no V8 powered truck ever made it all the way. The only 2 trucks to top it was my FJ40 and my buddy Bob's FJ55. The RPM's were so low that I swear I could hear the pistons moving one at a time. Grunt baby, GRUNT.Political Correctness'.........defined

I've always been partial to Toyota in the 4x4 category. The only vehicle I've had that I actually miss was my Pickup (Hilux everywhere else in the world). I always wanted to build mine up as such it could do stuff like this, but never did get to it.

Jesse, I agree, nothing better than a straight 6 off road, I remember the 4 liter in my '89 Cherokee. It had a low first gear, combine that with a lower than average 4 Low and that thing would crawl up steep inclines at idle so well you could walk beside it as it made it's way up hill.
That was a big six! Gotta love first gear in 4 low. IIRC, I could only do about 4 MPH in it.

The truck in your pic has had some serious suspension work done to it.
I have to say, after I sold my FJ40 I bought an SR5 4X4. The first time I tried a bit of real off roading it scared me.....first time I've ever been scared off road. I never took it off road again.

Love my jeep. Best years of the XJ are 91 - 94 imho. I'm hoping to stroke the motor out to a 4.5L some day. There is a guy I've recently meet while volunteering at the Uwharrie National Forest that works on the yota's. He has a really nice FJ.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.
Bedroom system: Carver CT-24, Parasound HCA-800II, Monitor 10's
Additional projects: RTA 12c's -
Scared? I don't follow.
As in fearing for my safety due to the inability of said vehicle to perform as required.

Pretty much sums it up. Had my sons 91 Cherokee in a few but puckers on occasion.
