no word on pricing yet. general speculation is that it won't be in the "budget" range.

Almost certainly not, I guess somewhere around $1,000 - $1500 range give or take and probably $2k for the limited. Keep in mind though, being that you're interested in a used 1200, this coming out will likely help drive down those ridiculous prices.

Wow. What an enthusiastic and informational video. :/

I'm sorry, but from and "audiophile" standpoint, that table is just not worth that kind of $$$. I get it from a dj standpoint, but for shear audio quality, better can be had for less.

I hope it does not get priced that high but with the trend right now I'd guess you were right.

The price hasn't even been announced yet, so what kind of money are you estimating and talking?

we have a 'guess the price' contest going at another hifi forum (no, not THAT one)...

    my guesses:

the limited edition "Gae" version ("not that there's anything wrong with that!"):
    $5000

    the standard version (1200G):
MSRP $1500; street price $1100 (maybe $995, though!).

I also went on the record as laying odds at 50:50 that the plain vanilla "G" version will be manufactured outside of Japan someplace (I'd say that Malaysia is as likely as the PRC).

Hmmm. $5000 and $1500 sound about right. Except that I think they might go even higher on the lower end version, maybe $1999? Either way I'm OUT.

After a bit of flooding in my basement and the loss of a few dozen album jackets and having to wipe down the vinyl itself, even though I'm not a big vinyl guy and am using a DUAL turntable with a decent Shure on it. I am NOT a happy camper! My basement floor is being decorated by unsleeved LPs several fans and two dehumidifiers. I also split the seams of one of my OLA (Advents with wood veneer). I'm afraid to look at the SDA 2Bs in the storage closet under the stairs, crossing my fingers that I didn't split the seams there also!

So even if vinyl is not your primary medium. At least don't be STUPID like me, keep the records off the floor if there is any chance of a leak, flooding, furnace failure, etc.

That's why at least some of the more worthwhile stuff in our basement is up on pallets. Won't help much in a real deluge, but for the typical leaky pipe scenario, it can add peace of mind. Just sayin'... ;- )

    on topic:

A post at AK references an article suggesting a $4k price -- but it's not clear (to me) whether that's the "G" or the "Gae" version (needless to say, I haven't looked at the link).

Considering all the 'spensive engineering has been done years ago, it looks like they will be taking advantage of the boom. Most folks used clay or dynamat on the plastic chassis to dampen it, or bought a wood plinth. KAB has mods and accessories to make the SL1200 a better experience.

Why do you think not? The "What HiFi?" article strongly implies (not that it's all that clearly written) that the base model will be $4k.

It's here. Technics has officially unveiled its brand new turntable, the direct-drive Grand Classic SL-1200G, due on sale summer 2016...

It's due out this summer - but it won't be cheap, with Technics telling What Hi-Fi? it will cost around $4000. The previous Technics decks would retail for around £1200, but Technics says this new deck is completely redesigned and, naturally, a real jump in performance...

There's also a 50th anniversary special edition in the offing, the SL-1200GAE, which features a slightly different finish, limited serial number platter and a magnesium tonearm (as opposed to aluminium on the standard model). This model will be limited to 1200 pieces.

EDIT: So -- magnesium is flammable. Just sayin'...

Very few DJ's are going to spend $8k on a pair of tables, just seems too high to me. They'd be competing in the audiophile world with the likes of VPI and Clearaudio...

...is less than $4k, would you really consider buying a 1200 instead?

Thanks, I missed that thread! So it actually does come with a cartridge? I have not seen anything written anywhere that says it does.

Hey Rick, It did not come with that cartridge. (Sorry about that) The seller had it installed and sold it to me that way. He only used the TT once and decided it was too much TT for him, so he opted for something much simpler. If you get a chance, read the thread... There's a wealth of information on there regarding the help of my TT purchase from our awesome fellow CP members! The next upgrade for the TT is a Denon DL-110 cart!

    Frank.
    Hope that helped!
