Hi all, I'm new to the site. I'd like to know what is the biggest and best Polk powered sub.

It is going to have to follow a new pair of RTI A9s. My Paradigm PDR 10 just cannot follow the A9s lead. My room size is 28'x13'x7.6 high. I don't like boomy bass. That's why I'm looking for a sealed sub. Does anyone have any experience with Goldenear FF5 sub? From $ 1000 to 1300 dollar price range here in Canada. By the way. Happy New Year everyone.

The current TOTL Polk sub is the DSW Pro 660wi, but it's not a sealed design and IMO is geared more towards HT.

REL and Velodyne make nice musical subs.

If it is so easy, then find something specific for a better price in Canada. B)

I would check out sonic boom audio, which is the official svs dealer for Canada. I've had 2 dsw 500's for many years and micro pro 3000. Which I used in conjunction with rtia9's. I would try velodyne, paradigm, or svs before going Polk. I did really enjoy my dsw series subs for the money, and they performed well for home theater. The micro pro I thought was very nice, solid and powerful, but for the money, not worth it unless you can get one on an extreme discount. They are expensive up here. Secondly check out cannuck audio mart, I've seen many REL subs on there for great prices. Used is your friend, or up the budget a bit and buy 2 sealed svs sb2000's. Which are offered at a discount when bought in pairs. Trust me, I've had ALOT of Polk subs. I have 3 svs in my house, they kick ****.

(Just a side note, the DSW MP4000 is not the DSW MP3000's "bigger" brother...they use the same 10" driver, cabinet and passive radiator. The 4k just adds room correction.)

As for the sub, SVS is arguably one of the best bangs for the buck available to the Canadian market. Some members of this forum will direct you towards inferior products as is their wont. But don't be fooled...subs in the HT market have never really been Polk's bread and butter and as such, they tend to be over-priced and under-performing in the grand scheme of subwoofer things.

One of those is going to stomp a mudhole in anything that Polk can offer in the subwoofer market...and if you can manage to stretch the budget to acquire 2 of them, room nodes/peaks/nulls will be a thing of the past and you will have all the clean, tight bass you could ever want.

    Mmmmm, not so....the 4000 has a 12" driver, a 12" x 12" passive radiator and a larger cabinet while the 3000 has a 10" driver and a 10" x 10" passive radiator. The 3000 also has room correction, at least mine did. B)

I sold my 3000 and got Polk's DSWPROwi550 which I prefer over the 3000 for both HT and music.

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that the 1k and 2k were the 2 8 inch models with the 2k adding room correction and that the 3k and 4k were the same in 10 inch models. Learn something new every day.

That being said, I still stand by the rest of my post.
If the OP isn't willing to do DIY options (there are a pair of FTW21s for sale in Canuckistan) then SVS is going to be about the best bang for the buck available in the great white north.

Yeah, the MicroPro 4000 was a 12 incher and a pretty good sub! The PROBLEM, Polk had overpriced it or couldn't produce it at a competitive enough price to make a profit-or so I believe. Because they discontinued what should have been a STAPLE Polk product and TOTL sub!

I guess it must be hard to make a good 12" 1000+ watt sub that competes with companies like Velodyne, SVS, etc.? Whose offerings at $1K or less are D A M N good!
