Shortening a Power Cord

I have a Panamax 4300 power conditioner with one of those waaaay too llong power cords. I would like to cut it down to 6 feet because I will never move it and baring it blowing up, never take it out of the HT rig. Before I crack this thing open, how difficult do you think this would be?

shouldn't be too difficult, however your not hurting anything either by leaving well enough alone. Pop the top and see how it's wired up inside.

  • Just cut the power cord to the length you need and install a good power plug. It should be easy to match up the wires from the plug and cable you cut off.

This is what I did to one of my power conditioners. I used a hospital grade plug and shortened the cord by several feet. It didn't do anything that I could detect soundwise but it did help cleaning the rat's nest of wiring.
  • Shorting the cord should be as simple as walking.

I could see myself with spiked hair after plugging the unit in.

Don't try shortening the cord while wearing high heels.

Plug it in to an outlet, bypass the circuit breaker for said outlet with a 16 penny nail, cut the cord with a pair of side cutters, with the grips removed, after wetting your hands with salt water. Still more civilized than a pfb family Christmas.
