New cell phone? What's up without the subsidizing?

FWIW, It makes perfect sense to me to think twice about the investment of one's income and/or financial resources... e.g., I decided a long time ago that I'd rather drive a Ford and retire early than to drive a BMW and work 'til I die.
YMMV, though, I suppose.
PS -- you should see *my* cell phone ;- )

Payments on the purchase of a phone ? Whats next.....payments for that toaster ? lol
All because your told and sold the idea that you NEED this xyz phone. Guess that's a testament to what good marketing can accomplish.
Joey,
I'm sorry pal, don't mean to bust your nuts too bad but lets put things into perspective for a second. You just spent 30-40k on audio gear and your seriously going to whine about a 700 buck phone, subsidies ?? Maybe you need to reorganize that priority list, especially if the phone is a tool for you to make a living on a daily basis.
Key issue to me anyway, is it's a tool to make a living with.....the audio gear is a luxury you enjoy once in awhile. Which should hold more water ?
I will agree with you Tony, you do make good points. I guess I'm just peeved about it.

Have you thought about just keeping your current phone and getting a tablet? Doctor jacket pockets are pretty big aren't they? I think you'd dig an iPad mini.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I'm going to keep my phone until it is utterly dead.
By then maybe iPhone 7 or 7s will be out.
I thought about a tablet, but it's heavy at times and I'm not on the phone all the time. I just need it if I forget something on the fly... usually my phone serves as a way to communicate with consultants or when EMS/ambulance needs me.
A tablet might be overkill.
I wish my brain was connected to the electronic medical records, I'd be like 10x more efficient and wouldn't need these scribes following me around.Magico, JL, Emm, ARC Ref 10 line, ARC Ref 10 phono, VPI, Lyra, Boulder, AQ Wel, SRA Scuttle Rack, Bluesound -

I should look into that. I bet i'd just use it for surfing the interwebz and youtube.
But we havent figured out how to incorporate ios to our medical EMR system. I wish I could just use it to use Siri to write my notes and if I could just order labs and imaging on the ipad.. wow.
I'd be like an android.
Smarter than a doc too cuz I'd be able to look things up on the fly.Magico, JL, Emm, ARC Ref 10 line, ARC Ref 10 phono, VPI, Lyra, Boulder, AQ Wel, SRA Scuttle Rack, Bluesound -

AT&T switched to this with NEXT long ago. I chose not to go to NEXT and just buy my phones. I mean an iphone 6 is $25/month for 2 years = $600 (16gb). The monthly price goes up with the higher model phones. So my 6S+ is like what, $799? $33.50/month in that case.
Before it was $199 + 2 year contract. Contract had a built in $25/month that you didn't ever see, so the price is the same.
Now that I'm not subsidizing a phone, they gave me back $25/line that I'm not using. In the end, the price is the same one way or another.Main Surround -

Verizon lets you pay it out over two years for the same cost as paying it all up front with no contract. Ex: iPhone 6s is $27.08/mo for 24 months or $649.99 retail. So basically, my bill didn't increase because I was already paying the $25/month "rental fee."
