Does it just get louder? I forgot that it has this adjustment.

so no free lunch?

Why ask the question when the equipment is in front of you? Have an ounce of courage and try something by yourself.
If you do not own it and researching, that is different and understandable.
Wow. Just effin wow.

what did you expect to gain?

Agreed. Read the manual, try it, you won't break anything by trying. Unless you're wasted and like my friend brant, that happens to break everything while he's drunk.2 channel:

nb, the manual did not make it all too clear to me what it was for plus I read this elsewhere "To the left of the input options rests a gain knob that gives you control, plus or minus 6dB off normal or THX reference, to help level match the A31 to other amplifiers - presumably ones that fall outside of the Halo lineup of products. This is a decidedly pro feature" and I am certainly not a pro so I figured it is best to ask first. Instead of blowing something up.
Just be clear you turned up the gain on the AVR and it eventually failed? -
My benchmark has adjustable xlr pads, similar to gain adjustment. From factory at a 1/4 volume my system was blasting. Needed to adjust the jumper pads down, just like gain, to accommodate your amplifier. Just try man.2 channel:

What effect does that have onsq? The manual warns of possible speaker damage

Turn it to 11 and forget about it.......

I think the nbrowser ear test is a good one if someone besides yourself may fiddle with your rig.

Turn the gain all the way up and let the pre control the volume, It's that easy.

Turn it up and forget about it.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

First off, I like questions cuz they make me think. Forget about those who don't.
You may be able to set the gain all the way up and maybe not.
It depends on your upstream component signal. You get noise along with it.
Most amps pass that noise on. -
I just checked this out on the A31. Unless I'm missing something, it seems a little different on this amp than other Parasounds I've messed with, which have been HCA models. THX is at 12 o'clock on the gain knobs on this A31 unit, whereas it's full clockwise on the HCA's.
Haven't read what the manual says on this, but my initial thought, as well, before I saw the layout, was that it should be maxed for THX. Not sure what that extra 6dB will mean, or whether there's really any difference in this setting for Halo vs HCA.
I'd read the manual here to see what it offers, but you can read it first

I disabled signatures. -
That is a nice amp and on the radar at one point.
As msg suggests, reference level on the gain for that amp is zero.
Good place to start. -
Pretty easy to see that Normal/THX is at 12:00. Without reading the manual my guess is if you add more gain you could add more noise and or distortion, depending on how you crank the volume noob. It probably depends on what your system can take and be happy. So I would just experiment and see what sounds best to you. Hell, you might have to go to the minus side if your system cant take Normal/THX, Might sound better, you'll never know until you try.Anaheim Hills CA,
