buying a center speaker before needing it

Hi all, I have a 23 year old receiver and will be replacing it sometime in the next year. I just got a pair of RTiA3. I'm thinking of buying the CSiA4 center speaker but can't use it until I get a new receiver. the reason I want to buy it now is because I can probably buy it on sale and I don't want to risk not being able find any new in stores. Is there anything wrong with buying a speaker and letting it sit doing nothing until I get a new receiver? I want to build a new 5.1 system but can't do it all at once.

  • Yeah
    What he said!
  • Update: I posted this question in a seperate thread, but thought I'd also include it here cause I need to know asap. I can get the LSiM704c for a really really good price (free) :) how will this speaker differ from the CSIA4? Will it be worth it for me to sell the LSiM704c and use the money to get the CSIA4 with money left over to put towards a new receiver or subwoofer?

It won't be a good timbre match but if you can get it for free absolutely do so and get the matching one. No brainer IMO

Step 1) Get the free LSiM 704C
    Step 2) Sell your RTiA3's
    Step 3) Buy LSiM 703's

would a non-audiofile like me really tell the difference in the timbre between the two center speakers?

that's not an option because the LSiM 703s are bigger and won't fit in the entertainment unit. my wife doesn't want to put them on stands. but I will probably sell the SLiM704c and get the CSIA4 or use all the money to get a receiver since I've read that center speakers are not actually needed if you will be sitting right across and in the middle of the TV.

PS. sorry to hear about Lemmy.

It's free, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Only your ears can tell you that. We can't hear what you hear.

  • I assume you guys can hear the difference. to you guys, would the difference be a lot? anyways, it seems this LSIM704c is priced at $1000 here in Canada. I'm definitely selling it.
