Need info on marantz CD player

Thinking of picking up a nice marantz cd-67se with iec upgrade. Has box remote manual etc. looks mint for 150 bucks, Looks nice and reviews are nicer. Need opinions if its worth it. This 2 channel rabbit hole is deep! I plan on using it as a transport only as my benchmark dac2 will outperform the onboard one. Thanks guys.

    I can agree with you Ken, but we are comparing a 20 year old player to a 4 year old one. It's like comparing apples to grapes. By the way, you have a really nice player man. I'm not ready to pluck my oppo 105 from the theater just yet.

    I will have to agree. After thoughts and discussion with Audiophiles (Skip included) it makes sense. Trash in trash out. Since you will be using as a transport that may give leeway as many CD players may have the same optics but different DACs. Just takes research on how to save a few bucks.

    Can someone elaborate as to why a better cd player is called for if he is using it solely as a transport? If it spins and sends a signal out to the outboard dac which is doing the processing anyways, why spend the coin on the nicer suggestions? Trying to learn myself, not trying to threadcrap or troll. I get the point if listening to it thru the onboard DAC, just don't understand what makes one player a better "transport" than another.

    This is where I'm at. I have a dam good dac, but again that's why I posted this question.

    I'm trying to rid myself of the lsim. Doesn't seem that anyone is biting, Might have to give them away lol. I'm a little tapped out, and for the price of the Marantz 67se, and good reviews I figure for a little over a hundred bucks it might be worth experimenting with?

    I have a CD6005, nice CDP. I don't know that $450.00 for a refurb is that good of a deal though. That is considering new is $499.00.

    Well, the Marantz cd 6005 showed up today. Didn't get much time with it, need to re-arrange the rack. Managed to unbox it and plug it in to make sure it was working. I don't have any interconnects kicking around, only a monster optical cable from wayyyy back.

    Very surprised as this thing is quite heavy! And of course a very nice build quality. I'm Looking forward to test driving it on the weekend. Need to find some interconnects somewhere, Hoping my local hifi shop might lend me some for being such a loyal customer :smile:

    Anyway, popped in dark side of the moon for a quick test and sounds very nice so far. The girlfriend was sleeping so only got a chance at some low level listening, so no review as of yet.

    Will pick up a after market power cord on the weekend and a pair of interconnects, and spend some time in the music! System is in the basement and it's like a freaking time warp down there, Time just disappears!

    OK, got it permantly installed in my rack last night, been super busy this week at work, have had almost zero time to play with it. Any who, popped in dark side of the moon last night, and what can I say.... except... it's sounding kind of bright? Used the analog outs on it, put the same song on my mac book playing through my benchmark dac2, sounds lovely and silky smooth, switched back and forth and yup... player sounds really bright.

    Thinking some break in is required, looped a cd since last night. Will have more time to evaluate tomorrow, play a few more cds. So far seems not marantz at all to me, my marantz 7702 kicks some ****! But then when I think back It took me some time before it started to really sound great. And at first was disappointed with it, watched a blu-ray tonight and the 7702 is sounding better than ever!

    Good to hear Ken, I have noticed a nice big sound stage, and very fine details. I did some research and found others pointing out it does need some break in. Heading to a new used shop tomorrow in the search for some vinyl and cd deals. There is also a huge bin of cds at Walmart for 5 bucks and under. Then I will spend the better Part of the weekend listening to some tunes, we have gotten a huge dump of snow and temperatures in the -20 degree range without the windchill in the past few days.

Heading to a new used shop tomorrow in the search for some vinyl and cd deals. There is also a huge bin of cds at Walmart for 5 bucks and under. Then I will spend the better Part of the weekend listening to some tunes, we have gotten a huge dump of snow and temperatures in the -20 degree range without the windchill in the past few days.

    brrrrrr! We've been getting the usual west coast weather the past week, been nice and sunny and around 5-6C. Might head down to the local vintage audio place and snatch up a old Kenwood 2 channel amp...supposedly has two power supplies!

    I'm certainly not an expert or anything but that might mean you can't use it with the SDA's.
