Just want some opinions on HT equipment. Which would you prefer, the Denon 5800 or a stack of carver TFM-35's and seperate surround processor. Both are way cool but I think the stack of Carvers would be awsome. My mains are 3000p, center CS1000p, surrounds fx1000, rears rt55, sub PSW650. All input will be greatly appreciated.

With large speakers like you have I would go with the Carver seperates. 2cents have fun

Go with separates if at all possible.

I have a CARVER M500t amp with POLK MONITOR 12s and this system ROCKS! The CARVER/POLK combination is what got me started in audio years ago. You can't go wrong with the CARVER!!!

Separates all the way! IMO no receiver can match the sound quality of a separate amp configuation. Heck 1 amp can be te size of a receiver and be heavier. I had separates before digital and had to go to a receiver before separate processors came out. I really disliked the difference in sound quality. I have Moitor 12s series II driven by Adcom, now or again. I like the sound of Adcom over Carver. Flame on but remember Matt Polk had Adcoms in his home system shown on the old site.

calcman1-which M12s do ya have and welcome to the forum.

Thanks Calcman1 and Chris for your input. I figured seperates would be the way to go but its nice to hear that from peaple who have experiance with them. Adcom would be my secound choice of amps. I'll have to check into them more. Which models would you guys suggest? Thanks again Marty

Marty-IMO along with others which I have read about think the older models, GFA-555 II, GFA-565, etc. sound better then the new mosfet amps. Like the GFA-5500, GFA-5300, etc. the older amps have a warmer more tube like sound which the newer have lost. Adcom hand picks a lot of the parts which go into their amps and other products or at least it was that way with the older models. Adcom is a company kind of like Polk more bang for the buck, thay have very good build qualities. You can get the older models on eBay for a good price. IMO if you got a few GFA-555s, bridged two one each for your fronts, one for your surrounds in stereo mode, and one for your backs also in stero mode. A GFA-565 mono block sure would work great for your center. The 555s are 200 watts RMS stereo and 600 bridged. The 565 is 300 watts RMS mono.
When I first bought my Polk system in '91, I bought one pair of M12 series IIs and one GFA-555. I soon upgraded to another amp and 2nd set of M12s and so on. Now I have the whole Monitor Series II set of Polks with the exception of the M6s and a host of Adcoms. I was real happy with this setup with ProLogic then they had to come along with digital.
