I am starting to look for a pair of out door speakers to place under the car port for some tunes while enjoying the summer weather. They are going to be powered off the second zone of an Onkyo TX-NR808.

The two above are the ones I am looking at. Has anyone had the opportunity to listen to / compare them? Any others in that general price range I should look at?

Either one is very capable, The Def Tech may dig a bit lower though. Welcome back Josh.

BTW....I see the Def techs on Ebay all day for 179 a piece brand new.

I'm not a fan of the one speaker with two tweeters arrangement for stereo reproduction, so unless you are getting a pair of them & wire each as a single, I'd personally pass. The Def Tech, how do you position those properly if you use the included bracket? The drivers would be practically pointing at each other. I guess for casual background music none of this would be of much concern. I personally have JBL N26AWII's on my deck which I've been happy with. I've also heard the Home Theater Direct Q65's which are nice as well.

I wouldn't pass, both are excellent outdoor speakers. You won't regret either purchase.

I will definitely be getting a pair. As for the deff techs I belive they would be mounted horizontally so the passive radiator would reflect off the roof / soffet.

I have the 8sdi's and they sound fine outdoors. They are impervious to the elements as mine stay outdoors all year.
