Powering RTI A9
Hi guys, I'm finally ready to upgrade my sound system and want to start with the RTI A9's
But before I do, I want to make sure I'm don't get in over my head trying to power these speakers. I have a Marantz SR 6008, which I just recently bought and was wondering if my receiver would do these speakers justice?
Thx in advance!

Yeah
What they said! -
Thx guys, I checked the price of those pre amps and almost passed out!!
I plan on sticking with my Marantz SR 6008 and don't really plan on going surround right now. I notice the A9's have 4 terminals. How would I wire them to get the best sound from the speakers/reciever?
Thx in advance

If the jumpers are in place you can use the top or bottom teminals, makes no diff... -

Mentioned were power amps, not pre amps. We were talking used, not new, which can be had for as little as 400 bucks.
Hopefully 400 bucks....in this hobby, won't make you pass out. lol Otherwise your in the wrong hobby.HT SYSTEM-

The cost of the pre amp definitely won't break the bank. Looking forward to getting this all set up!

Hey everyone. I'm new here in the forum but I have been a Polk Audio owner for 3 years now. I have a pair of RTi A9's and I love those speakers. When I first bought them I was not too happy with their sound until I discovered that I just wasn't feeding them enough power. This speakers will sound 3x better when you power them correctly.
I'm passively bi-amping them. I'm using a hotrodded Dynaco ST 70 for the top section and a Crown XLS 1500 for the bottom. I have the Crown using the low pass filter, crossed over at 165hz. They sound very very good in my opinion.
The new Drive core Crown XLS amplifiers are great amps for the money. Highly recommend. -

I agree, mine sounded less fatiguing with more power added. You could actually hear a change in the high pitch, it would smooth out.
One important note with A9's and amps. If you are running these towers at full, or large, the woofers will suck GREAT amounts of power with todays movie audio tracks. The LF's are sucked up through a straw by these A9's, and if you're just using an AVR, well, you're just not feeding it any justice.

I have to agree with Geoff and others who are for getting an amp, the A9's need a lot of juice and when fed with 200+ it sings and the highs smooth out. IMHO go with an amp even if you are not going to crank it much, it just leaves you with a headroom and the A9's will sound great even at low volumes. Not to mention you won't be stressing the Avr much.

Why ? I'd save and move up the speaker chain or invest in better gear/cables. Your already pushing probably 400 watts to them at higher volumes. The 9's can dip below 5 ohms at times and your amp pushes more that 250 at that level.
Though I'd imagine your reading those "manufacturer suggested wattage" usage numbers printed on the back of the speaker. You really should pay those number little attention. Think quality over quantity, and current over watts, and your musical enjoyment will expand.HT SYSTEM-

^ I head the A9's with the parasound's and they sounded better yet, so moving towards that upgrade first. And when it comes to manufacturer numbers I know better not to trust any (not a total noob). The rotel will find home in my bedroom with some B&W bookshelfs.
Also researching on improving sources, there's no point moving up the speaker upgrade path when I just got A9's only a year ago. Love the sound it gives when properly powered. As for cables I have spent enough on them without falling into snake oil territory.
-
Also just to point out, in New Zealand the A9's alone are 2.5k usd pair. If I went to better speakers than I'm looking at spending 5k-10 usd a pair. I do have plans to upgrade but only if I have a dedicated listening room in the future.
And to clarify why I want to push more into the A9's, I did bridge the Rotel feeding the A9's and they sounded balanced, with 250w the high still got fatiguing, not as much compared to the avr but still. (At higher volumes, have a large listening space to fill) -
2.5 k a pair ?? Highway robbery, even for New Zealand. Is anything cheap out yonder ?HT SYSTEM-

Oh yes very much, everyday after work I pour myself some wine and have the A9's bring in the tunes. I went and auditioned afew speakers in the price range and fell in love with the A9's. My father used to own some speakers when I was a kid and the a9's were pretty close to the sound driven by the parasound's hca3500 or something.
I could have gone with the other offerings that were available for me but I chose the A9's. 30% aesthetics and 70% sound wise.
