Sorry to be a bother with this but it occurred to me that I may possibly have a way to resolve my problem and was wondering if someone with technical expertise could advise me if would be viable.Anyway I have a set of rta monitor 11's [the ones that have a right and left placement, non sda ]Of which I assume use the SL2000 tweeters, and I may be able to get hold of a set of early model pearless.Would it be possible to use the pearless in the rta's and use the SL2000's from the rta's in my SDA1b's? Also are all SL2000 tweeters interchangeable between different Polk models using that particular numbered tweeter?/ Thanks for your time.and seasons greetings!!

  • Post a pic of the rta's with the tweeters so we can be sure of what you are talking about. Are you sure these are not the 12's?
Anyway the SDA-1B's used SL-2000 tweeters. As for the RTA's it depended on which generation. That is why I suggested posting a pic.

HI honestaqarian,my thanks for your response but i have to offer my apologies as I think i may have wasted your time. I should've taken the time to take a look at the rta's,From a Web page I just looked at they resemble the SL1000 except they are all black and dont say polk on them. When researching the rta's prior I could've sworn i read that they used the SL2000's.I'd send a pict. but my computer knowledge is almost as extensive as my audio. But if curious they look like monitor 10's but with the base of the 1b's and a left/right side sticker on the rear.AGAIN my apologies for taking up your time ,and others that may read this,I feel incredibly foolish in my haste!! Anyway the search for the cure continues!! Happy Holidays and have a excellent New Year!!

Peerless crossovers were different and not really interchangeable with the SL2000 XO's. You can use any SL2000 generation tweeter across the board from different speakers

thanks for taking the time to share that info Pitdogg2,It will definitely help aid me in my search replacements. [And a Very Merry Christmas 2U ]
  • The SL-1000 tweeters had a silver faceplate and like the SL-2000's had filament leads going out sideways from the dome body. The Peerless tweeters had flat black faceplates (*unlike the SL-2000's which had a raised faceplate*) and filament leads going away from the dome diagonally downward (*unless they were mounted upside down-then diagonally upward*)
  • Also the RTA-12's had bodies that resembled SDA-2's. The oldest ones were smaller and stand mounted and looked like the monitor 10's. In both cases the crossover and tweeter was on top of the cabinet. Depending on the vintage, some(*that being the oldest*) used Peerless tweeters, the next gen used SL-1000's and the last gen used SL-2000's

The OP has Monitor 11's with Peerless tweeters, a somewhat rare Polk speaker. Treasure them.

OP, replace the tweeters in your 1B's with the newer RD0194 from Polk. It's a much better tweeter.

Hi ,the ones I have I think have the pearless. If you goggle vintage polk spks on the 2nd page there is a site with says- pdf monitor [vintage] this is a attempt to catalog the various ,Mine are the 82-85 monitor 11 another site showed them to be RTA 11 categorized by the left and right placement stickers on the rear, which really got me to ponder wtf when I first purchased them about 12 years ago.so much so that i removed the bottom radiator cover to see why.Another surprise look ma no speaker! Thats when I 1st became aware of what a passive rad. was.Looking at the mids i noticed the inner one was mounted in a tube, hence the left and right!Don't know if theres anything extra done to the x-overs but the imagining on these is incredible. You can sit way off to one side and it still snds like its coming straight out out from between them. They where my first real quality spks and they will probably be the last piece of audio gear I sell.Again thanks for the interest, and all the best to you all in the coming year!

Not completely correct the SL1000 and peerless looked very similar in their leads went diagonally away from the dome, SL2000 leads went straight out to the side. Peerless had the black face plate and SL1000 had a silver face plate that said Polk on them, both the SL1000 and SL2000 shared a clear dome. The peerless had a "rubberized" black dome with and with out a hole in the middle..

This is what was incorrect...sl1000 vc leads are just like peerless. I was hoping to clear up the confusion
