Sansui 7070 - Nice!

Wanted to share- I just found a Sansui 7070 receiver at a local record store. It’s in pretty good shape – everything is there and it sounds really really good. The lamps in the front didn’t all light up until I banged on the top of the unit. It turns out that the light board is notorious for poor solders. After about 10 minutes of reheating all the solder joints on the board I got all but one lamp to glow. Now it looks great.
I replaced the peeling vinyl wrap with some leftover cherry veneer from my Polk Monitor 7 project- now it looks really good.
I wouldn’t have bothered if this thing didn’t sound so damn good. I hooked it up to my Polk Lsi7s and was absolutely amazed – this receiver sounds clear, clean, and amazing pleasant. And it has the current to drive some pretty power-hungry loads. I'm definitely going to play with this one for a while!

Great graphic! The 7070 sure does look nice. And I'm impressed with the power to the Lsi7s - I was not expecting them to pair as well as they did.HT System:

Very nice, there's a ton of information on line on how to service those receivers, they sound much better and safer when properly set up and running in spec.
Service manuals are available for free download at hi-fi engine web page. It's recommended to check the idle current and DC offset balance is recommended.
You may be able to do it yourself. If your good with soldering, it wound be a bad idea to re flow suspicious solder joint and replace electrolytic capacitors that show sighs of failure, for example, caps showing shrinked sleeve, bloated, etc...
Have fun
