Irritating DirecTV Issue

Last week I was due for an upgrad to all 3 receivers to the "Genie" receivers, which all can view programs off the main DVR in the HT setup, as well as some other cool features such as rewind to the beginning of a show if you tune in late. The upgrade was free due I have been a customer for 20 plus years. The tech had to upgrade the dish as part of the process, because the dish has to feed the main DVR, then the signal works backward from the DVR to the other Genies. The tech said the old dish was not grounded properly....which really p'ed me off due about 18 months lightening fried a PJ and Pioneer Elite AVR. Which the new Genies, you CANNOT run the coax through a surge protector due it jacks up the signal. SOOOOO, I guess the only option left is those HDMI surge protectors for any surge coming through the coax. I guess my point is be wary of some of these independent techs installing dishes on your house. On the ground level, I could have swore the old dish was grounded, but many times you cannot see up on the roof....

You shouldn't have to go on the roof to see if it's grounded. It has to come down somewhere and be grounded...in the ground. Usually by a metal pole stuck in the ground. Can't think of anyway to ground it on the roof....nor would you want to.

Sucks that the Genie won't work filtered through a power conditioner. Kinda curious why.

I could have sworn there was a ground wire from the splitter to the ground pole.....perhaps not a wire from splitter up the house to the dish.....or perhaps not connected to the screw on the dish. I tried the Genie through the surge protector.....no worky....BUT, alas, convenient for the 20.00 a month protection plan the tech was pushing. Any recommendations out there on the HDMI surge protectors??
