Lsi25 sub hum

Picked up a pair today at a great price. When I get them home and try set up #1 in the manual, I plug in the speakers and all I get is a loud hum from the subs. I noticed that the jumpers are gone so I used speaker wire to jump them and still have the same problem. My AVR is set to large on the fronts. They are running through my Parasound. Am I missing something?

Almost sounds more like intermittent static
  • I have one that does that. Polk said I could send it in for service, but I never did as life got busy. Please share if you resolve.

I hooked up the woofers straight to the amp with the speaker wire and I got music. Probably the amps.

Since the hum is present even when using the hi level inputs it could be a filter cap issue.
  • Do you have a battery powered music source that you could try as the input?

Static electricity is DC based so no AC hum involved.

what is the crossover frequency for the subs? Could use external amplification and a passive crossover that feeds below 80hz, like an old M&K piece that comes up on ebay over now and then. Combo would be a lot cheaper that $600.

Or of course just not run the subs and you have LSi9s right?

Polk is saying caps now. Shouldn't be too bad and it'll still be a good deal I got on them.

Sending them in. Need to prove I fixed them to the dude I bought them from. He's ponying up $50 towards the repair. :)

Update. $50 in parts and $90 in labor plus shipping both ways and they're doing just fine. On one it was the phase toggle switch and the other was a voltage rectifier and the output caps.

Thanks for sharing the update. Maybe I'll start looking for packing to send mine in. Or just sell them to Ender cheap while it still buzzes.
