upconversion to component video?

Hello all,

When a receiver is capable of upconversion to component video, what does it mean? Does it make a different for HDTV ready TVs only or will it work for HDTV compatible TVs also? Thanks much.

    It means you can connect a video component like a VCR to your receiver using composite video (the yellow of the yellow, white, and red connections). Then you have a component video cable (red, blue, and green) go to your tv set. Even though they are two different types of connections, your receiver will convert the signal from your VCR so it will pass through to tv. It will work on any tv with a component video input.

    In simple - you can connect different types of cables from several different video sources and send only one component signal to your "tv". I have tried this for the super bowl because my projector has a built in progressive scan. Went S-Video into reciever and then component out to my FP and it did NOT work... :(
