Newbie here , and got RTI8

Hello polkies, :)
Been out of the home audio for long time,but
Finally bought new RTI 8, to replace, my old Optimus Pro LX10 Towers , which have serve me well since the 1999. ( And are for sale )
As i right this, i just got the rti8 hooked up and playing,,
Question is most likely dumb but here is my setting's on my receiver and what im running.,And am i correct ? or any info or suggestions.

Receiver has a built in crossover setting of @90 for low's to sub, as far as i can tell..
And i have all speaker's set to small @ receiver...
Friend told me to set the front RTI8 to large on the receiver settings, but i thought he was wrong on that, ???????
And i set the surrond sound, ( level ) from speakers, bye ear,, then used a SPL meter to check level.. ( i was close with my own ears )

Receiver = Yamaha HTR-5590,( 100W RMS or 90 in real world #'s )
Sub = Klipsch K-100SW ( new)
Rear Surround's = Fluance SXBP-BK High Definition Bipolar ( new )
Center = Polk Audio CSi3
Speaker Wires = 14 Gauge OFC ( new )

  • as X says, welcome!
    Fronts set to small is probably best for the 8's.
    Let the sub do the work.
    AFA the other settings, if you are happy w/ the sound it is right IMO. :)

    I checked, and you are correct that your receiver has a fixed crossover point of 90Hz for low frequencies. Given the power output rating of the receiver, I would run the center and surrounds small like you are doing.

    The subwoofer's frequency response (+/- 3db rating) is 32 to 120 Hz, meaning the crossover point for your receiver is fine and you won't lose frequency with your main speakers if they are run small. The RTi8 will go cleanly down to 40Hz. Given that, I'd run them as small too mainly because the subwoofer goes lower and the receiver doesn't have big power reserves.

    You could also try it both ways with the RTi8s as small or large and see which you prefer, but I'd be careful with the volume when running the RTi8s as large. Your room acoustics may determine what sounds best to you.

    Looks like you are on a good path!

    Those settings suggested may work fine for HT, MUSIC you may prefer to set the speakers to large....depends. Large will give them a fuller sound. Try it set to large for music 2 ways, one with the sub, and one without the sub and see which you prefer. Just make sure you set the receiver at "no sub" so those low's get sent to the speakers when trying it without a sub in the mix.
