OPPO 103D Dynamat Needed?

Really impressed with the OPPO unit. All those things everyone has talked about on the forum are accurate with regards to the quality of this BD player. So my question is; is there any benefit to adding Dynamat? I did so on my Pioneer 320, but with a high quality player like this, is it really needed? Anyone have experience with doing theirs? My other concern is voiding the warranty if I load it up Dynamat.....

I was wondering the same thing.
I'm not saying it would not be worth it, but the 103 I have is so solid out of the box (like 12 lbs.?), not to mention dead-quiet, it seems like it might be overkill.
And for the record, I have enough Dynamat to try this, but am hesitant to crack the case as well.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I dynamatted several spots in my 47lb Esoteric DV-50...of course, I have no comparison reference as it has been done since I listened to it last a few months ago and when I dynamatted it until I will have a chance to listen again...

Exactly. I don't see a need on the 103.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
So instead of wondering, I decided to email Oppo CS directly -

Note: There is a discussion on an audio forum I belong to about possibly adding Dynamat to parts of the inside of Oppo Bluray players to tame chassis ringing and minimize any mechanical vibrations.
I am not certain this is necessary or even beneficial, but my question is will adding a product such as this void my existing warranty for my Oppo BDP-103?
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours truly,
Harry Behr

And their (pretty quick, IMO) reply as follows -
Harry,
Technically the warranty would be voided, but as long as we are able to replace our stock components, and the damage was not done by the modification, then we will continue to offer in-warranty support.

So take that for what it's worth, as long as you don't interfere with any repairs they might need to do, or actually cause any problems, I guess it's OK to try Dynamat. Even so, I think I would prefer to wait until the warranty is up; you just never know! YMMV
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Good info. While you have time to edit your post I'd suggest removing your email address.

Yeah, I missed that when I removed my phone number, thanks Ken.

I have always worried about excess heat build-up w/dynamat. When your metal cover can absorb heat, and allow it to act like a heatsink---this effect is lost when dynamat is covering the underside of the metal. It may be an unfounded issuem but it seems to me the heat would be held in the component chassis.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I apply Dynamat Xtreme to all my gear regardless if it's 50 lbs. or 12 lbs. Make that especially if it's 12 lbs.
Unless the cover of a CDP, etc. is designed to be an integral heatsink (very rare), it isn't and therefore applying Dynamat is most definitely not an issue.Political Correctness'.........defined

Tap the chassis. If it rings, you have some area that dynamat will help. Regardless, dynamatting the optical drive chassis will net improvements.

When Dynamatting components be careful that the foil is not going to short anything when you reassemble. This is not usually a problem if doing the lid but if you do the inside bottom, it could short the PC board if there is not enough clearance. Don't block any vents and be careful not to create mechanical obstructions.Stan

Jesse I get what you're saying, I am just reluctant to mess with the guts of a BDP I cannot afford to replace if they void the warranty. We are talking about my luck, after all... LOL
I am still going to try to open this up, I am curious as to what makes it as heavy as it is.So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
