  • You guys have helped me through your insight well enough that I haven't blundered too bad, so I'm going to have to say, putting my screwdriver through the woofer when installing door speakers in my car. Lucky they were clearance rack kenwoods, but that chuffing noise from it was as bad as the rotten worn out paper speakers they replaced. I just now, a year and some change later, got around to buying new ones. They're waiting till I get around to installing the amp to go in though. Although, maybe amped speakers all around and a 12 inch sub in a 700$ car is overkill, lol. Clearance rack and black Friday have been kind.

I don't count them as regrets, more so a learning experience. Though my wallet as you guys say is also lighter, I would have spent it on hookers and blow anyway....and some fantastic wine. lol Which btw, wouldn't have lasted as long as the audio stuff.

There have been many cables I tried along the way that didn't live up to the hype. An early Sony 1080i rear projection lcd that was a dog I paid 3g's for. Other than that, the dogs I've owned audio wise have been priced accordingly so you really don't have regrets. More so an understanding of you get what you pay for.

    Easy....Vinyl!
I honestly would like to get rid of all my records, turntable, 2 pre's but i feel id be p*ssed if i did so.
SO, now i'm stuck with a small @ss load of vinyl with no real desire to do anything with them. They will sit, stored, and maybe, just maybe, someday i will look at them again.

No regrets I guess, the path I took to get here was all a part of growing up and taught me what my ears like and what I feel makes a difference and what is worth having and worth saving for.

Biggest regret is not employing acoustic treatments sooner. Everything matters, so as audio enthusiasts or 'philes, we ought to understand everything that affects sound quality. You get what you accept, so you need to put the time in to learn.

Same here, or at least wish I had started higher up the food chain in receivers or gone to separates first. Just didn't know enough then. Probably still don't now but I know I wouldn't go the same way again.

Ha....I certainly know what your saying, but you may not appreciate it as much if you don't experience the lessor stuff.

Once tasted though, pretty hard to go back to the ho-hum stuff.

I guess my only regret is that because of this forum there are a lot more things to chase. I did not make any really bad moves everything that I have has its place. However there sure is a lot more stuff that I want to try.

I went through a couple years where I was so obsessed with sound quality, that I forgot what got me into the hobby in the first place...The MUSIC. Robbed me of a lot of enjoyment for a while.

Simply, selling my 2.3tl's. Kinda like breaking up with that one girl way back when, to date the other girl. Grass is never greener it seems.

When we bought my wife's deceased uncles house several years ago before I made audio a hobby. There was a nice large hand made wooden box with a mint Hickok tube tester...not sure what model but it was large. Not knowing what I had, I gave it away while making space for the remodel :'(:'(:'(

There are a bunch of others. (lesser speakers)

Still I'm sorry I sold them. Then he asked for my stock 1C's and I sold them too. Space had really become an issue here and that's mostly why I sold some off, it was not because of money or the wife.

    • Not buying more SACDs than I did when they first came out.
    • Buying a Cambridge Audio 850C cd player. That has been the only piece of audio gear I've bought that sounded great but was completely unreliable.
    • Wasting money on several different brands of speaker cables and interconnects before finally figuring out MIT Shotgun series cables outperformed them all when used throughout a system.
    • Buying Polk RT1000P speakers...bad idea having a powered woofer in those. Those were what brought me to the Polk forum, and I quickly learned that I could have spent much less on a pair of used SDAs and got far better sound.
