MC85 speakers - ideal enclosure volume

Looking for the ideal enclosure volume for MC85 in wall speakers. This is assuming that an enclosed space would provide better sound than an open 2x4 wall with 1/2 inch Sheetrock. This is a dedicated home theater wall with closet space on back side for components and wiring.

The MC85 speakers are being used as my main front speakers and center speaker.

    Hello,
    welcome to Polk's forum. The MC85 are designed as "infinite baffle" speakers, meaning all that is required for best sound quality is that the rear of the speakers be kept isolated from the front of the speakers to avoid bass cancellation. They really don't require a specific volume of air behind them, however a modest amount of sound absorbing material (such as Dacron) behind them will help with mid range clarity.

    Ken, I just purchased the MC85's and they will be installed in 2x10 wall cavity over 8 feet high (uninsulated), no drywall, 1x8 pine "car siding". Should I insulate this cavity or build a "frame" around the speakers using blocking? Seems like a big space for these small speakers to fill. Thanks
