John Deere

Any JD owners out there?
I have since put my Hegel purchase on the back burner and plan on buying a leftover JD S240. My 16yo Cub Cadet is tired and don't feel like dumping more money into it.

I will be staying away from the box store D Series. There is a local dealer a couple miles down the road which is convenient. I went in and tested out the 240 and then started the money talk. The salesman told me if I didn't need it right now to come back at the beginning of January when all 15s go on sale.

Just looking for a little friendly advice. Anyone own this particular model? It's got a good blend of the D Series and 300X.

Thanks!
Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

I've owned a JD 4400 Compact Utility tractor for about 15 years, and I've had great luck with it. The JD service in mayor is great, too, when I have needed it. Fortunately, about the only times I've needed it is when I've made some kind of stupid mistake -- e.g. not checking the air filter when I've had trouble starting the engine.

The tractor drives a 60" snow blower in the winter -- which is a necessity in New Hampshire if you have a ~450" drive way to clear of a 24" snow fall.

I also have a 60" commercial mower deck and a 430 front loader (along with a couple of other attachments).

It's a great tractor, which is easy to maintain -- except the petcock to drain the coolant is a pain in the a$$ to get to. I devised a special tool to get around this design-for-service flaw.

I can't speak to the smaller JD tractors or more recent new models. I can only say that my experience with this tractor and the company has been very good.

I've read at least a dozen reviews on the 240 which are all favorable.
Now i just have to play the waiting game until they actually go on sale.

I looked at simplicity but they are even further out the price range, $3k+, which i dont care to spend.
