Polk rti8 or rti12's?

Hi all,

I can get the rti8's for $240 for the pair or the rti12's for $500 for the pair.

Any recommendations on what I should get?

I currently have the speakers below so these would be replacing the rti6's.

Receiver = Denon x4000
Fronts = Polk Audio RTi6
Center = Polk Audio CSi5
Surround = Polk Audio FXi30
Surround Back = Fluance AVBP2
Sub = Polk Audio PSW404
Fronts = Polk Audio RTi6 - bookshelf
Center = Polk Audio CSi5
Surrounds = Polk Audio FXi30
Surround backs = Fluance AVBP2
Sub = Polk Audio PSW404
AVR = Denon x4000

    It appears your rig is used for HT and I'm guessing you have things crossed over at 80Hz, so very little to be gained by going with floor standing speakers unless powered by an external power amp. Have you considered upgrading your sub instead?

    Welcome back to the Polk Audio forum! I see this is a followup to a past question.
    The prices have improved in your favor. While the RTi8's would be an improvement over the RTi6's, I would suggest getting the RTi12's at that price while you can. I never regretted getting mine for a similar price.
    You can run them off the Denon X4000 for now. It has preamp outputs so you can pick up an external amp down the road when you can afford it.
    I would also note that the bigger brother to your Polk PSW404, namely the Polk PSW505 subs are going for relative low prices on Amazon and would suggest picking one or two up. You can run multiple subs to improve the low end performance.

    Thanks, and ya the prices are crazy low. What do you think about what F1Nut said though?

    What I said is better advice given your question and gear. You'll never drive those 12's properly with your current AVR and just end up disappointed. Get a better sub with the money you have now.

    Let's assume I get a better sub, like an SVS plus/ultra which I plan to in the next 12 months, if I got a the 12's with a $300 amp like the XLS 2500W would that be a great setup?

    Good idea on the sub. I'm not a fan of pro amps, but I'm sure someone here will tell you they are great.

    I can tell you this, HT is easy..that is, the gear matters a lot less as it's no where near as demanding as 2 channel music.
