FXi3 speaker placement....

So I picked these up last weekend.
Now to figure out how and where to put them. What is the switch on the back for? Bi pole Di pole?
I was originally going to put a shelf up and put some monitor 4's or 5's for rears but if I understand all this surround sound HT stuff its the center that needs to "timber" match the mains not the rears?
Be kind and over look the clutter.....
I found a stud about half way across the mini-wall. IDK what else to call it. I was going to put the other one right by the door way into the kitchen. This would put the rears about the same width as my fronts. Is that where they need to be? Should they be closer together then that sense they are triangle shaped? Or should I use these else where and use the 4's or 5's for my rears?

From what I see on that back wall....looking at the picture.....the surround speaker placement on the right back wall will be tough because that beam will mount it pretty close to the ceiling. Is that what u were thinking?

Yes it is. Is that bad? My initial plan was to build a shelf and put a 5 up there on it's side. It's the only space I have in my small house. Unless I turn my dining room into a media room.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

I found that keeping my Fxia6 rears about 12 to 18" down from the ceiling made a pretty big diff., but most of use have to accomodate the room. Maybe test having the left speaker , as we look at your pic, mounted next to the gold album about 18 inches down, and the right speaker on the opposite wall mounted 90 degrees turned, on the same plane level as the left speaker. It would not be the "norm" but with some calibration it may just work....it that makes any sense

I assume you mean the wall where the window is except on the right side of the "beam" in the great room. It's a small house but it just me and my twin 17 year old boys and it was reasonably priced. Being divorced and paying $1400 in alimony limits a lot of what I can do. So I do anything I can myself. Plus I love learning new stuff and fixing and building things.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

Yup....try it out before putting holes in your walls. I went through a whole rigamaroll with setting up ladders and boards to figure out the best placement of the rears. I get weird about drilling into walls due my OCD tendancies...

So glad you said that about the ladders. I was just going to mount them up.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.
