Hi I've been reading the forums and as a relative newbie have been learning lots from all of you. I have rt1000p mains, cs245 center, and I believe m3? for my surrounds. I am not happy with the bass produced by my rt1000p...it just doesn't have the "punch" that I would like for movies. I have a yamaha rx-v795 reciever and am looking for a sub to match up with my speakers/reciever. I have been looking at the polk 350 or 450 and the 12" energy subs, also the paradigm pdr10. I have been leaning toward the polk subs as everything else I have is polk but am not hearing great things about them. I use my system primarily for home theater and I'm hearing that the paradigm are great for music but not necessarily for home theater. I'm confused and could use a little direction. What sub should I buy to complement my system? My room is about 15' by 20. Should I be concerned about the watts Do I need 10inch or 12 Some Salespeople say no and some say yes I can't seem to find a salesperson who is much help. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have a Paradigm PDR-10. Yes, it is great for music and I think that it is great for HT purposes as well. IMO, I think that Paradigm's PDR series is the best in it's class. Go listen and see what you think.

I think the 10" is a little more musical than the 12" but it depends on your tastes. If you primarily are interested in HT and are looking to rattle the walls, by all means check out the PDR-12.

the 1000i's don't go too low i believe something like 35hrz or 40hrz, and the woofer can't handle too much they start to clip easily.. remember when looking for a subwoofer it has to go below your mains or you are gaining nothing.. svs and earthquake and sunfire make excellent subs they go below 20hrz, this is bass that you feel and don't hear.... well you can hear it a little but you sure do feel it... the best thing to do is run your front lft and rght pre-outs to your 1000's take off the jumpers. now run your sub jack to the sub and set it your crossover to below the mains..

i would also throw in velodyne to your auditioning list, and there is a parts express 10" titanic sub that seems to be getting some good reviews as well for a budget sub. you can search for it on this forum. ideally, it would be good to get a sub that can reach down to 20hrz... what are you looking to spend on the sub?

I can vouch for the Parts Express ‘Vance Dickinson’ sub for $350. Simple kit to put together. In both a test tone and a warble tone which both went down to 20Hz, the tone ended before the sub bottomed out. It uses a 10" driver which hits hard enough to feel. Also the sub has a 45 day return even after putting it together. IMO for $350 which you can get back as long as nothing is f'ed up, it is worth a try. I also have a Velodyne ULD 18 which is not as fast as the P.E. sub but hits a little harder.
