could you tell me a list of maybe 10 different tube's to look for that may be worth messing with - as i just picked up 20 shoe size boxes of tubes. Not sure what they were used for -or- can be. Different sizes & pin design's. I paid dirt cheap for them & they came with a old tester that is problably way outdated & may not even work/or calibrated. I am gonna try to go thru 1 box a night if i can & not sure if i will get them tested at all + i dont know how to even if it did work. Just want to try to maybe learn something out of this.... I brought one box in & will take a look. TIA .. if for some miracle there is something that can be used & you need it i will be glad to send them to you if you pay shipping. Not sure when the last time tester was used & i have NOT even cleaned it up - or plugged it in

There were boxes that had some numbers wrote on them. I will post pics & there were alot that had no written on them. Maybe this may help. Oh there were boxes the tubes were loose inside the box. Would they still be usable ?..

I saw Tung Sol. Rca. Sylvania's & lots more different brands. Not sure if tv or audio. It gets dark up here early so i didnt spend much time with them tonight & can report back..

I'm going to guess the variety of tubes you got there would work with tube audio gear, guitar amps and preamps, tube TV's, any old tube gear? Hope the tubes are all good and still work.

I have no idea. I know the tester is dusty & screws are rusty. The tubes in boxes appear to be clean. Some boxes are mixed together. I plan on cleaning up the tester tomorrow & poke around with it some. It was store in house & gentleman passed away & guy i got them from knew nothing about them & wanted them gone..

Here is a pdf assembly and use guide for it. Link is from antique radio forums. Some good info in the linked thread. I wouldn't plug it in without inspecting the innards first.

Because I have amps/preamps that use them, these all come to mind:
12ax7 & variants
12au7 & variants
6Ca7/EL34 and variants
6DJ8 and variants
also:
EL84 and variants
KT-66
If you checkout Brent Jesse's pages, you can see a general listing of the variants of these tube types and his take on sound/value of brands if you click the main tube type heading.
