OK - this control is for adjusting the subwoofer level on the external inputs.
Denon wisely included this feature since many universal players seem to lack enough bass output from the subwoofer channel and this makes calibrating the sub a nightmare.
Think of it this way - the overall subwoofer level when calibrating will be a combination of four things:
1) The sub level in the player itself (-10 to +10 usually).
2) The Ext. In. sub level in the 3803 (0, +5, +10, +15).
3) The sub level in the 3803 External Inputs mode (-12 to +12).
4) The volume setting at the subwoofer amp.
Remember, the 3803 Personal Memory Plus will retain a separate subwoofer level setting in the External Inputs mode, just like it will for any other input.
You have a TON of flexibility here to get the sub level exactly where you want it for external inputs.
Calibrating the External Inputs is more challenging for sure. I use Avia for that too and I set the surround channels levels to exactly the same level as I do for the DVD-V digital coax input. That way I can switch between them for a direct comparison with no level change at all.
Of course I calibrate the sub lower for external inputs (i.e., all music) than I do for DVD-V via the digital coax (i.e., HT). I like to run the sub on the cool side for music and this is an easy way to do it.
Hope this helps, Cliff.

Yes, very detailed description... of what to do, if i can get it right is the question. The player is a toshiba sd-4900, It's a cheaper model for now and seems to have a weird way to calibrate the speakers and it wont play a sub test tone, It has a spot to change the level though.. and the settings i think are 0 - -10, I just wanted to make sure it was ok to be setting the denon lower then the +15, right now its way overbearing in the bass department for dvd-Audio.. I got some reading to do in the manuals as well and some calibrating also..
Thanks for the help once againMY HT RIG:
