New 75" Samsung TV Impressions (UN75J6300)

After finally receiving delivery yesterday, here's my initial impressions. Coming from a 50" Panny Plasma, this is a BIG tv. WAF is rather poor, but hoping that will change. Motion, which was one of my big worries in going to an LED, is no longer an issue. I leave Soap Opera Effect off, and find no issues with motion blur. Contrast is also excellent, much improved from older LCD's I had seen. I dialed the colors in from some basic calibration settings from rtings.com, and they look very plasma like, with more pop in the whites. Overall, I'm very happy, with the exception of the very reflective screen (albeit better than the plasma). Seriously, do TV makers think no one has windows anymore?

I'm starting to look for a new tv to replace our still very functional 42" Panny Plasma with something in the 60-70". Did your plasma have an anti-glare screen? The reason I ask is that we have an open concept family room kitchen, at the end of the kitchen are patio doors (there are two windows but those are taken care of by closing the California shutters , we have the 3/4 version so we can leave the top 1/3 opened a bit with no effect on the tv) sometimes it would be nice to leave the shades on the patio doors opened but they cast nasty glare on our plasma with anti glare screen at about 25 feet away if left opened during the afternoon. That model of Sammy was on my list.

I did have an anti reflective screen on the plasma, but our current room overwhelms it. The reflections are still a pain in the butt on the LCD thanks to the glossy screen, but the brightness helps (note, it still bothers the hell out of me)

I have a 55" similar Samsung 4K tv and they are really getting nice... Very good for general watching but still prefer the 64" plasma for movies but I am sure my next one will have to be a LED/LCD 4K.

    Congrats!!!

I'm just not a Samsung fan. I have seen to many break or be broken out of the box. Not to mention I don't care for the video processing they do. And on another level they do not calibrate well at all.
I much prefer the Sony XRB models as they don't come broken or we don't have any issues with them and they calibrate very well.

But everyone likes what they like and if you like the Samsungs ten more power to my friend.

I always get baffled by the Samsung dislike, and the stories of them breaking or coming out of the box broken..

I have purchased 7 samsungs in the last ten years, I still have all of them, never had an issue with any of them, as a matter of fact I'm sitting here watching the 50" 720p plasma I purchased in 05 in the family room, works and looks just like the day I purchased it...

My latest purchase a 78" Curve TV, is the best TV I have ever owned, the colors, depth is insane... And the 3D is out of this world, it really gives me no reason to go to the movies..

I'm not knocking the other brands as I have seen them, and they have great pictures as well but Samsung has givin me no reason to move on to something else..

    Yep Samsung fanboy... B)

Cracks me up seeing folks complain about reflective screens. I guess no one remembers that every CRT made had them.

    What's crt?

No worries old man. I'm not that young. I still remember damn near breaking our backs getting my parents 32" flat screen crt in a cabinet it barely fit in. Reflective or not, I'll take a flat panel over those behemoths and live with whatever picture quality gets sacrificed.

My 1st HD set, 36" Sony XBR. Must have weighed 300#. Sold it to a buddy who still watches it daily...

I remember having to get up to change the channel to something else I didn't care for....
As for the glare, guess I became spoiled with the anti glare on my plasma and also that our ht was in the finished basement in our old house. Now it's on the main floor.

I'm not that young. I grew up with CRT's and had an early CRT HD rear projection. I didn't get that much glare, but the picture would wash out badly with light. The new tech is obviously an improvement. I watched Star Wars on bluray last night (my son's first ever viewing). I was impressed; it definitely has that movie theater feel. Picture quality isn't quite as good as the Panasonic Plasma it's replacing, but its close enough given the other benefits.

.....and you have to pay to watch tv today too.

The newer 4k TV's represent a cross between the Plasma's we loved and the brightness and clarity of LED's. Unfortunately it's hard to find one that isn't a smart TV. Don't even think one exists.

The biggest complaints is quality issues, and software bugs. No brand is immune, but some are better than others.

I'm a huge Samsung TV fan. I've had a few now and most of the family has been running Samsung TV's for a while now.

Never had a problem with them...

My Samsung 860 series Plasma is nearly 6 years old, still running strong (knock on wood) and has a great picture.

My fathers new 4k Samsung looks awesome as well.

I plan to hold off for better 4k OLED options...

No, now there's Netflix, Hulu, and such. You pick what you want to watch. I know, as stated, you're getting up there but do try to keep up. ;) All the shows you remember from "back in your day" are available, I watch Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy all the time.

Just purchased a 65" LG 4K. Was torn between the Vizio and LG. Same price and the reviews on the Viz were more favorable , but i just liked the picture better on the LG. Seemed more natural. After purchase, read reviews on both. Good and bad, like audio equipment.

Spent a few hours calibrating both vid and audio and well, im a happy camper. Played some 4K media from Amazon Prime and its just great. Im very impressed with the sound from it too.
