I have to tell you that LFDH is one of my favorite shows on TV. I watch it every chance I get.

I know a lot of you have probably watched it too.

Daryl Hall is undoubtedly one of the coolest (and talented) dudes on the planet. I found it hard to believe anyone could have objected to him being inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. He's sold more records than just about anyone. Here's this 69 year-old rock/pop/soul/rhythm & blues (just don't call it "blue-eyed soul" because he hates the term) icon who is so filthy rich he never has to work another day in his life and he goes through all the effort of putting on this show from his house just for the fun of it. This is in addition to all his other "hobbies" including restoring old houses and he still tours occasionally too.

His voice is still great! The show started out on YouTube in 2007 and now has grown to become one of the best shows on TV with millions of viewers worldwide.

He brings musicians from all eras and genres onto his show and they play some fantastic music together. Usually it will be new versions of each artist's hit songs along with a few from Daryl's impressive catalog. I can honestly say that there isn't one episode I haven't enjoyed regardless of who the guest artist is (and I wasn't a huge Hall & Oates fan in the 70s and 80s either).

All top artists appear on the show and I hear there is like a 5 year waiting list just to get on. Who knows if Daryl will still even be doing it when he's 75 years old?

Each show consists of several great-sounding sessions with interviews and a food section too. You can tell everyone is excited to be on the show and to hang with Daryl. The sound is excellent. Really rocks the SRTs.

Every episode is good. Here are a few of the more recent ones:

If by chance you just returned from a deep space mission or never watch Palladia, check it out.

Here are some clips from YouTube.

I like how they start out with some of the guest artist's hits and then the do some from Daryl's impressive catalog. The band is fantastic.

    Billy Gibbons "La Grange"

    Joe Walsh "Life's Been Good"
    https://youtube.com/watch?v=efB3aQkZS1g

Todd Rundgren "I Saw the Light"
    https://youtube.com/watch?v=N48-K9z-HA4

Here's Cee Lo doing "Bright Lights Bigger City".
I think this version with Daryl's band is better than his original version.

    Then "Crazy"

Then they do "I Can't Go For That".

  • I've been to his club this year. Took the wife, daughter and her new husband this past valentines day. Amy Helm and her band was playing. We all had a really good time. His new venue is in Pawling, NY. Also, taking the wife and kids to the Hall and Oates at Madison Sq garden this coming Feb

Great show, great music....but ol' DH at times seems a bit full of himself. Otherwise, Joe Walsh and Sammy Hagar are about the 2 coolest dudes on the planet and they had some cuts on the show that were record material.

  • Not only does he have one great house in the country , he gets artists he wants to play w/ and most are A-listers and others are newcomers he knows about. Also he always includes a piece on what they are going to eat and from what I understand he opened a club/restaurant in town. He plays whatever they want then always throws in a Hall and Oates fav. I did see H&O many times in the late 70's and w/ G.E. Smith was one tight band w/ about 50 hit singles.

G.E. Smith was in a bunch of H&O videos on early MTV. After that, he was Bob Dylan's guitar player. He went on to become a legend. A few years ago, he was playing in Moonalice, and a friend of mine got some backstage passes. We got on the band's bus and met G.E., and later he was hanging out smoking a cigar under a tree and we talked to him for a long time. Nice guy, can play the blues like nobody's business. I've watched LFDH a few times, I need to remember to watch it more often now that cold weather has hit and I'm watching more television.
  • Dromunds. you might not know or forgot that G.E. was also the 2nd and sometimes the 3rd lead guitarist w/ Hot Tuna. I've seen them both w/ G.E alone w/ Jorma and then both w/ Larry Campbell. For my money Larry Campbell I wouldn't say wipes the floor w/ G.E. but is such more of a multi-tasker that the nod goes to Larry. The guy plays,Telecaster, peddle steel, mandolin, fiddle and acoustic guitars. Also before he was Hall & Oates lead he was Live On Saturday Night's bandleader and guitarist for 20 some odd years. No fooling he's got chops but I still like Larry Campbell's playing better.

Agreed on Larry Campbell. He's in a special class. I saw him as Dylan's guitarist probably 25 times and just saw him with his wife a few months ago in a small club with maybe thirty people in the place, photo below. He and Theresa signed and chatted afterwards, very gracious gentleman. I considered his years in Dylan's band as the best band Dylan ever had, largely because of what Larry brought to the table. He sang harmonies also which Dylan doesn't allow many in his bands to do. Lol. I've also seen Hot Tuna and Jorma solo on many occasions but never with G.E. I knew he was bandleader on SNL, he was also bandleader, so to speak, for the 30th anniversary concert for Dylan. Larry played with Levon Helm recently and produced a couple albums for him , including I think Electric Dirt which I believe may have won a Grammy.

Larry and wife opened for and backed Jackson Browne in Durham a few weeks ago. Fantastic. Unfortunately, none of these three played with Electric Tuna in April as I had hoped. Still, it was excellent.

  • That's funny only because when I describe Larry Campbell I call him a tall lanky Jackson Browne. My friend said they played at the yearly Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Festival in GG Park but again not w/ Tuna. I did see a photo of the tribute to the Airplane at the Lockin Festival w/ G.E. playing a rare Fender 12 string and Larry on Telecaster far stage left. That festival must have been something to see there was so many different players from bands just making it up as they go. Phil Lesh and Friends. His friends were Carlos Santana and Warren Haynes that I could see from the video. Tuna alert .they are playing The Beacon Theater late December to celebrate Jorma's 75th birthday and if it is anything like his 70th this a great show w/ all kinds of walk on friends. The night I saw Steve Earle, Pete Sears,G.E., Otell Burbridge, Bob Weir, and David Bromberg. They brought a giant cake shaped as a Les Paul guitar.

I have said this before on a few threads but, I still wish they would make a CD or 5 of the music from the show!

One of my must check to see who is the guest.

The diy or hgtv series that followed the remodeling of his newly acquired new England antique of a home to add the huge space where they perform and film the show was pretty good too.

Must be nice to have fundage.

Check out this link if you are a Tuna, Larry Campbell, Jorma fan. I am going to make the scene here someday. It is an easy drive from Columbus.

Agreed Ern, some of the renditions they do on the show are better than the actual recorded material. I'd buy them if they ever came out.

Yeah the production is pretty-slick and has improved over the years as the show has grown to be more popular. If you listen to some of the earlier shows the production was less-sophisticated but still good. Now though it is really advanced and sounds awesome.

Just watched the O'Jays on "Live From Daryl's House".

    What an excellent episode.

    The best show on TV.
