Florida Polkies (Ft Lauderdale/Miami Area)

Well my gf has decided on which PA school she will be attending and will be going to Nova at Davie, FL June 1st.

I am also looking to move with her and relocate and just curious to see if there are any Polkies around that area and any feedback regarding better places to live (rent for now) and areas to stay away from.

I'm looking to work in either the Miami area (Miami Beach etc) or Boca depending where I can land a job (Commercial Real Estate sector-Finance).

We both are pretty excited and she's excited to live close to her brothers, one is in Boca and the other in Boyton Beach.

Just spent the last 6 mos working in FT Lauderdale... It's for the most part ok. but there are areas to stay away from in many locales... Anything that has the word Miami in it is either too expensive or too bad of an area. Ft Lauderdale has it's ups and downs... North and west is nice... Weston is a really nice town but don't know if there are a lot of rental properties. North from Palm Beach to Boca is very nice.

I live SW coast of FL and like it much better than SE Florida... I am 2hrs from Tampa and 2 hrs 15 from Fort Lauderdale.

You will love the weather tho.... Unless you will miss snow and ice...

Took the words right out of my mouth! Sounds like Ft. Meyers? We are in Sarasota.

We've also had a condo in Delray Beach for a number of years. Love it off season. In season, not so much. To me, it's all just a continuous city from West Palm to Miami and a bit too hectic for my old bones. Best of luck, and congrats, on your move!

Thanks guys. Not going to miss the snow and ice that's for sure. My gf has had this dream her whole life and her two brothers have lived down there for awhile now and love it.

Plus they did introduce me to scuba diving (her one brother is a teacher for fun) and I got certified last time we went there. It was a lot of fun but a trippy experience being under the water like that. We plan on doing some more diving when we get back down there.

We are trying to time everything just right in terms of find myself a job and when she starts school. Been stressful with everything else going on around here but hoping it works out. :)

If you remember let me know! I'd love to talk to him and get a scoop on everything. Went down to the Keys last time we were down there. Fun drive, smells terrible, but the view is awesome.

Good luck on your new adventure. Sounds like you and your girlfriend have vision of your future together. Best wishes to you.

I happen to be one of those guys who likes all four seasons, including the snowy and icy one. We moved from Palo Alto, CA, which arguable has the best weather in the US, to New Hampshire about 18 years ago, bcause I missed the weather on the northeast. However, last winter was a little over the top.
