Looking to downsize my rear channels in 7.1

Way back in my bachelor days I got a deal on some Polk center channels. So I used two of them as rear surround speakers and two as right and left in a 7.1 setup. Now I have a son who is starting to walk and fear of him tipping them over, plus the room they take up the wife complains about. I was thinking about replacing them with some small bose acousticmass double cubes. ( i know i know) What are going to be my pro's and cons?

Personally not a big fan of Bose speakers. I've actually heard those little cube speakers in a medium sized room, and I still wonder why the people kept them. I would look at Def Tech Mythos or maybe even Polk OWM 3 or 5.

Have you considered the TL250 or 350?

I have not. I have a friend willing to part with the bose speakers he doesn't use anymore. I like the idea of the incresed space, just didnt know how much quality i was going to lose going from some monitor series speakers to these.

I'm sure I could do that. But if i bring them in the house i dont think the wife would let them leave lol.

Sound quality will diminish for sure. BTW, those cubes need the sub that goes with them, hooking them up to a receiver will burn them up. The cubes were designed to work with the sub, their crossover is actually in the sub, not the cubes themselves. Not a trade I would make.

Look for some smaller speakers like Polks TL series, Def Tech, Kef, etc. Look on your local craigslist and see what you can find to fit your needs.
