Hi guys, thought in sharing this here, i got this Marantz 1060 to mate with a monitor 5B speaker set I recaped a few months ago and can't let it go.

Despite the size this little amp puts out a very nice sound, it may be just perfect for my bedroom setup.

As speakers a 40 year old integrated amp must benefict from a recap, specially electrolytic, tantalum and other noise prone components known problematic.

I started cleaning off the dust on the chassis and boards, scrubbed the face plate, inspected for cold solder joints and adjusted the power amp bias.

Everything is working as it should and the bias stays stable st 7.5mv on both channels. My knock age and equipment is limited so it's good to start with something without isses.

I am putting together a parts list and fir know I will start replacing the main big power capacitior, the coupling capacitors and the power supply board... I'll post my progress.

Nice looking integrated and very clean.

Thanks, I usually the antistatic brush and a vacuum cleaner, on the most difficult areas I moist the brush with simple green cleaner.

The layout is very clear, components are big with easy access, makes de-solder and soldering process a breeze.

There is an independent circuit board for each part of the circuit, tone/preamp in the center, power supply at the right side, phono amp at left and the power amp in the back attached to the heatsink, the right and left channel share the same board.

The rectifier, main filter cap and coupling caps are mounted directly on the chassis. I like this kind of configuration, it's easy to inspect and troubleshoot your work.

Surprisingly, this unit sounds really good as is, there's definitely synergy between the amp and the monitors 5 with the clarity ESA. Despite the age, the 1060 is running in spec, only had to tweak the bias a few mv.

While inspecting it visually, I noticed a shrunk sleeve, and bulging bottom on the preamp local power supply cap. This not a good sign and I replaced it with a Nichicon Muse KZ I had in my part box.

I will leave the pre-amp board alone for now and focus my attention on the power supply board. I plan to replace all caps on this board using Elna Silmic II, I used them before, and they are a good fit to this Marantz due to their "vintagey" warm smooth sound.

The gurus also recommend to bump up cap values a bit and upgrade the 2 diodes with UF4005 for a better performance... I will follow up with pics once the parts are in.

I was going to ask about that. Is it in use or just decoration? I don't know if the phone co still supports pulse dialing.

Isn't it just a replica? I've never seen a real rotary phone with # and * buttons.

the cap that came out, the photo doesn't shown very well, but the sleeve shrunk a bit and the bottom seal was bulging... replaced with a Nichicon Muse I had around...

This is how I set up the 1060, clean, simple but an amazing pairing to the monitor5. The room shape and listening position makes it sound no less then perfect to me ears. Makes me wonder about the line of thinking, "isn't broken don't fix it..."

The speaker stands are temporary, I have a 14" tall stands in transit, it will elevate the speakers just enough.
