SGT Donoly Donowitz Eli Roth should of received an Oscar for his performance him and Brad Pitt Both. I just hope the Hateful 8 lives up to its hype the NYPD already want it banned in NYC.

Wow what a classic meltdown the guy doesn't know a thing about a good movie or good speaker cables some are just lost in a world of mediacrocy. That's to funny entertaining to say the least classic meltdown think I will read it again. I'm thinking his review on the Hateful 8 will be another classic now I'm really looking forward to the release and his take on it!!! Who would of thought that a thread about a classic movie from the great Tarantino would dig up a classic meltdown from the archives.

I am fascinated by the lengths that our moderator in chief goes to protect him while chastising the vast majority of the forum that would love to see an end to the trolling. I guess the needs of the special one outweigh the needs of the majority.

    @KennethSwauger,

    Ken,

Any chance that Polk HQ can post a set of criteria that can be used to decide what is "clean" and what isn't?

Perhaps, a set of standards about how to distinguish serious participants from trolls would be helpful, too, as well as a statement of what Polk HQ directs moderators to do with trolls.

I've always followed the maxim that "fair" means "treating like things alike."

Recent actions with respect to banning individuals and deleting threads have left me utterly confused about the rules that are applied in such cases.

Maybe a little clarity will help us all.

I, for one, am grateful for the help and advice I've received from members of this Forum. I've also grown to like and respect many members. Finally, I also find a lot of the banter good, clean -- albeit "adult clean" -- fun.

I don't understand, for example, the reasons the title of a movie -- "Inglorious B******s" -- should be censored on this Forum, while it was openly posted all over the country on posters when the movie was playing in cinemas.

Perhaps, there are standards that can clarify the reasons for me, and I would certainly like to know them.

On the other hand, if this issue is purely a matter of fiat or a thoughtless algorithm in the software, then something needs to be changed.

Don't get me wrong, I do not favor chaos or anarchy on the Forum. Thoughtful, judicious moderation is good for all, but as sensible, intelligent adults, we deserve to know the rules of the game.

Oh boy....you just gave Ken an open shot. lol

Sensible and intelligent adults, Ken would most likely argue, don't need to have every thing spelled out in black and white. If your 13, that might be an option but I believe Ken is trying to treat us all like adults by not having to spell it all out....even though that's a daunting task at times for him.

We all know dealing with the general public, in person or on line, bears it's own challenges. We do carry things a bit far at times. That's were Ken steps in, that is his job after all.

That said though, I don't see how we can abide by, succumb to, every little thing that offends people. You also have to use an adult version of sifting through the B.S. complaints instead of taking everything at face value. That to me anyway is key, because it seems every time one or 2 people complain, it rules the day. More weight should be given to the number of complaints, rather than who complains. It's not for me to say anyway, I understand that, just a passing thought is all.

I think if everyone involved uses some more common sense, foresight, good judgment, and wears a bit thicker skin, the forum would be just peachy.....and Ken wouldn't turn gray as quick.

  • Hello,
Certainly reasonable requests. The criteria, from Polk's point of view, is that there should be nothing on the forum that could reflect poorly on Polk Audio. It is their forum, completely. Anything posted on the forum should be able to be read by anyone of any age or gender without embarrassment.
The subject of who is or isn't a troll seems to be in the eye of the beholder. If someone doesn't share another person's belief in some topic he is labelled a troll. I can receive two messages from two different people each one giving me examples of what the other person did to them and demanding they be banned. Most of this looks to me as a form of bullying and "my tribe is better than your tribe" mentality. I've tried being diplomatic and working to solve differences and point out how to get along with some success. But, frankly I'm less inclined to do this as I get older.
This forum is hosted by Vanilla and as part of it there is a built in censor list and anytime it sees one of the words on it's list it substitutes "....". It doesn't know the context, when a word is used one way it can be perfectly fine. This same word can be used in a harmful context and is a way for one person to harm another. No censor can be perfect and if anyone feels like a word shouldn't be there let me know and I'll check into it and see.
If I find a posting that seems to have no purpose other than to attack another person either directly or through innuendo I will remove it. If I find the person who is making these posts is continually doing this and I am constantly having to deal with them I will detail this information and ask Polk HQ to help me. The large majority of members on this forum simply use it as it was intended, they enjoy reading about audio equipment of any type. They enjoy music and like knowing what other people are listening to. They make their postings friendly and don't particularly feel the need for profanity to express themselves. They know there's a time and place for all levels of communication and can conduct themselves accordingly.

Those of us who walk the halls of the academy know all too well the suffocating environment that is "PC"! Although, originally, intended as a good thing, and it has its place, it can stifle the creative, free and comedic discourse that is part of the human experience. Or, much of what makes life worth living!

Many of my colleagues are so "humorless" that they quickly become vapid ciphers with little personality who bore the pants off us. In an institution that prizes freedom of speech, questioning, and criticism I find that those who are closest to me have taken to communicating through secondary email accounts that are not owned by the college on matters that might disturb the powers that be. Standing up at a faculty meeting and asking poignant questions of our "leaders" often leads to quips like, "he's a loose cannon, etc." And this in a body of the so-called elite scholars of our society. As if that makes them different from the common man/woman! lol

What I see happening "here", is ALL too FAMILIAR. A response to sycophantic individuals who, under the guise of social harmony, call into question anything outside the box yet when it comes to their "interests", of course those are PARAMOUNT. Or to paraphrase Rousseau: "when they think of the OTHER they can only think in terms of THEMSELVES (their needs and desires)!"

X, explain why you clicked "LOL" on Ken's last post.

So X, I see you've now changed it to "Like". No doubt, because otherwise for you to answer my original question would have further exposed you for the troll you are.

    Yeah, we all got that.

However, one wonders why someone who is obviously despised by so many would want to "hang out" with them? Since you are an expert in that field would you be so good as to provide us with your reasoning?

It's been awhile since I watched IB so I popped it in last night, what a fantastic movie, QT is freaking fantastic...

I'm a huge PF fan so it's very hard for me to say IB is better, so I will just say I love them equally.... :#

I think Ken pretty much laid it out, so take it for what it's worth and what say we move on.

So we all should acquiesce to being bullied by a troll?
