Question for Polk HQ - Atmos

in Speakers
So I've seen some recent speakers come out that are built for Atmos, but rather than be mounted in ceiling, they sit on top of the speakers and fire up.
Does Polk have anything in the works (dont need details) like this?
I'd love to play with Atmos but running wires in my living room (first floor open concept) isnt going to happen.
Just something I thought I would ask
@D2Lo
@DSkip you see anything like that in their Atmos theater at CEDIA?

The whole 3D audio thing is taking off and a manufacturer would be silly not to take advantage of the market potential.
Dan, it is very possible that your joists for the second floor run perpendicular to the wall your TV is on. If that is the case, any competent installer can do 4 in ceiling speakers for you with minimal impact/drywall repair."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

@ZLTFUL
Im operating under that assumption myself, thinking the staircase wall holds the load for the joists hence the bulkhead between the dining room and living room. My hesitation is firstly cost for a contractor to do so (and then justification of said cost).
Plus I'd still have additional drywall repairs from where they ran the cables up the TV wall into those cavities...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." The absolute best implementations of ATMOS is with in ceiling speakers, which of course makes sense. The reflecting speakers are amazing but with variances in ceiling height, angle, and material, the performance can be variable. Take my living room, it is rather square, a glass wall to the left, and a 25 foot high angled ceiling. A reflecting height module just isn't going to do it!
Of course we are looking into it. It is an exciting technology. A few of the forum guys came and checked out our ATMOS setups at CEDIA. The Polk one performed pretty amazingly for a room with an open back. LSi front and rear channel with LS in ceilings.
Long story short, if you need a reflection based height module, Definitive makes one the best (if not the best) on the market and they sell it at Magnolia. Check it out. I can't give you any specific information on the Polk roadmap, but I can tell you that we continue to be committed to amazing component home theater that you don't have to sell your first born to get, so stay tuned! -

No worries on the roadmap lol, I didnt expect trade secrets to be released on the forum.... but feel free to PM them to me
I love my LSi's so I won't be going anywhere anytime soon product wise lol....The absolute best implementations of ATMOS is with in ceiling speakers, which of course makes sense. My main concern is that my main seats are really in-line with the side surrounds and I dont have rear surrounds as the space behind the seats gets into the kitchen fast.
So I guess my crossroads are do I do the following (assuming I do in ceiling)
7.1.2 OR 5.1.4 I dont have room enough to put 3 sets of speakers in the ceilings at the right locations.
So I could either do rear surrounds AND then a set of Atmos speakers in line with my side surrounds, OR 2 sets of Atmos in front and behind the main position..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." hmmm, I'm not really sure. My gut says that the 5.1.4 would be the way to go as it might be odd to have your two rear channels as in ceilings and then the two elevation speakers as in ceilings. Might be better to keep all the in ceilings as ATMOS height modules as a 5.1.2.... but, if you wire up 4 in ceilings and get an ATMOS receiver it should be pretty easy to try it both ways. Your room is going to sound pretty unique so I think you might have to experiment.
Could you put a pair of books behind the sofa on stands?
