Adding extra speakers to Bose Acoustimass 10 plugged into a Sony STR-DA7ES Receiver.
Set up for channel A. Ok, so I go and buy the great sounding RTi10 speakers, simply because my wife didn't get the full umph! listening to music through the Bose system.
Well, I figure that I could just plug into the back of the Sony, using Channel B... and switch whenever we listen to music. Doesn't work!? Only one speaker works when I switch to B.
I disconnected the front L and R speakers of the Bose plugged into Channel A, and plugged in the Polks, they work, but now I don't have the front Boses. I'd like to have them both working, and be able to switch when necessary.
The Sony is a 7 channel receiver. I notice the Bose System is set at 8 ohms... Do I need to set to 4 ohms to get the Polks to work in Channel B?
Or what? Ask me any questions. Help!
Thanks
Jeff

Don't set it to 4 ohms the RTi10s are 8ohm speakers. Sounds stupid, but are you sure you are connected neg-neg pos-pos?There are two ways to argue with women. Both of them are wrong.

When necessary ?!

Hello,
Welcome to the Forum. If I understand everything correctly you wish for the RTi10 to be connected to the "A" speaker connections on the Sony and the Bose speakers to the "B", correct? If so, when you do this and try to operate them at the same time only one pair, at-a-time, will play, right? If so, this is fairly common with some receivers, they will only play one pair of "A" or "B" at-a-time. This avoids drawing too much current through the receiver's output transistors. To solve the problem you will need a speaker selector control box such as the Adcom GFS3, which allows you to connect up to three pairs of speakers and play them in any combination and has a "protection" button, on the front, to keep the total impedance "seen" by the receiver at 8 Ohms.

Close! I have the Bose set, center speakers, in A, and the rest of the Bose in the other ports., ie, surround, back, center, etc. Basic surround sound
setup...
When I hooked up the new Polks in B, there was sound coming from only one of the Polks.
Yes, I am mostly certain that I had them hooked up L to L and R to R... but I will try again just to be sure.
Both of the Polks work, as I tried them in A (having removed the Bose from A, just to check.
They work that way, but then the Bose surround system is messed up.
Now, as I write this, I'm thinking, maybe just leave the Polks in A, and put the Bose front into B.
I will try this!
If anyone is familiar with the Accoustimass, there are a lot of connections, for sub-woofer, center speaker (2 cube), two (2 cube) side speakers, and two (2 cube) rear speakers.
Lots of wires...
My thought, as I somewhat mentioned, is to switch to just the Polks for CD music, and then switch back to the Bose for TV.
Thanks

Hook up all your wires and send us a pic of the back of your receiver. Maybe we can help you better if we can see your situation.

Well, here's what happened. Using Monster cable to add my Polk speakers to B... when i stripped off the ends, leaving the inside invisible piece of plastic coating on one of the wires!!! Hah! contact wasn't made!
Everything works fine, and those Polks are really nice!
Thanks for the suggestions. It only cost me $59, cause I called in a specialist from Flanners.
