Most important is that my mx1000 will smoke your gfa 555. I was replying to the other kid with 14k posts.

Easy. One persons gear being better than another persons gear is not important at all. This forum isn't an e-peen measuring contest. We're here to chat about audio and exchange information. Fit in and you'll find yourself a member of a great family that will go out of their way to help you.

Just for the record, we don't hate Yamaha gear here. Many love their Advantage series AVR's and their vintage CA line. Much else from them falls in the mediocre category. Just my opinion of course.

So do tell.....why exactly are you here then ? To sell a piece of gear ?

Nobody here gets "hurt" by discussing audio, just out in left field statements gets called on the carpet.

The M line of Yamaha's is also nice, but personal preferences as always plays a major role and synergy between pieces. Not a bad option for those looking for cheap, but many other options also exist. Sound quality wise anyway.

Not every speaker dictates using a separate amp over a receiver. Some simply want the simplicity a receiver offers and others may not have enough experience to even know why they need an amp.

Maybe thumb through some threads, old and new, and get a feel for the forum. Many simply join because they want to further their listening pleasures and don't know exactly how to do that. We like to help people in that journey and share our personal experiences and advice.

I was new here in the spring of this year. I have learned a lot and upped the quality of my system ten fold. Plus I have also spent thousands of dollars in the process...lol. So stick around lunatic, may be you will learn something new other than just Yammys.

    Thank you Club Polk.

    @lamtheslime,

I've used vintage Perreaux electronics for over 25 years with Polk SDA speakers -- 1Cs and SDA SRS1.2s.

These amps have the power and speed to make SDAs "sing."

You might want to have a look at this listing on eBay:

Thanks for beautifully illustrating the point made in last 2 lines of post 15 on second page of this thread. If you ever learned basic logic, and of course that's very doubtful, you would have realized that you implicitly agreed with my assessment of your friends line of thought and would have started your post with some sort of negation of my assessment of your friend.

So in short, you're saying you're a wiener? Well, I can certainly agree with that.

Hm.. I am not exactly here to feel warm like in chicken farm or part of a cosy family of happy buddies ) I know there are a lot of people out there whose family is online community, a dog or a cat. But no humans to interact with . I'd say such rhetoric will be more effective with those infantile people/tools/disposable meatbags.

I haven't said anything combative towards you, why are you on the offense? How do you know I'm an infantile person? You don't even know me. Check out this link, I truly hope you can work things out for yourself. G'day, sir.

We all know what anger is, and we've all felt it: whether as a fleeting annoyance or as full-fledged rage.
Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems—problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life. And it can make you feel as though you're at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion. This brochure is meant to help you understand and control anger.

I run a pair of 1.2tl's biamped with two carver TFM-42's, which technically was more power than needed. But it seems running a pair of speakers at the high end of the power rating seems to present less problems to the speakers then say a pair that has to struggle with the occasical high peak demand. I've had more problem with tweeter failure running a set of speakers at the low end of the power rating. buy as much power as you can afford, then some more!
Some of the older poer amps are a great deal, just need to set aside a budget for recapping and calibration...

Oh, God. I'm actually replying to this thread again.

Hopefully from here, we return to some semblance of rationality.

YES, older power amps can be a terrific bargain, but to repeat for truth, they WILL need service. Some amps are more-likely to have problems (or more severe problems) than others. This may be due to the basic design, the parts quality selected by the manufacturer, outright defective parts supplied by a contractor, or--of course--the treatment and operating conditions of the individual amplifier in question.

ANY electrolytic capacitors have a "typical" service life of about twenty years. Some electrolytic caps don't go that long because they were marginal for the circuit design, they were purchased from suppliers catering to the low-budget end of the spectrum, the manufacturer selected parts that happened to be "counterfeit" or the amp was just plain used hard.

Some amplifier brands have adequate-to-good aftermarket support. Adcom, Hafler, and Carver come to mind. At this point, certain Carver and Hafler amps can be rebuilt to be more-powerful than new. I don't know of anyone who specializes in the Soundcraftsmen line, even though it was conceptually similar to Carver. The Phase Linear amps can also be rebuilt better-than-new. I don't doubt that B&K, Proceed, Harman-Kardon, Rockford-Fosgate, dbx, and many others can be refurbished to as-new or better-than-new specs, but I have no idea who a person would go to, to be assured of quality workmanship.

My Aragon amps are going to need fresh caps sometime in the next few years, and I'm really NOT looking forward to that service bill--or the charge for shipping. OTOH, for less than the price of one new amp, I expect I can get 'em all rejuvenated. Whether this is a series of D-I-Y projects, or I send 'em out to the factory-approved service center may depend on my situation when I decide the time has come.
  • I have ran my 2.3tl's for years with a Yamaha mx-1000 with great success and was very pleased... until my mx-1000 died. Now they are ran by a Yamaha MX-D1 and sound great with it too. They sound a bit different, but I think they sound at least as good, if not better than the mx1000.
